One person has been pronounced dead following a shooting call in the area of the University of Toronto Scarborough campus. <\/p>\n

One person is dead following a shooting near University of Toronto Scarborough campus (UTSC). <\/p>\n

Toronto police initially said they were called to the area of Military Trail and Old Ring Road just after 3:30 p.m. for reports of a person with serious injuries.<\/p>\n

In a follow-up post<\/a> on X, police indicated that the scene is now at Highland Creek Trail and Old Kingston Road, which is south east of the original location provided. <\/p>\n

At the scene, they said officers found one person suffering from a gunshot wound. <\/p>\n

The victim has since been pronounced deceased.<\/p>\n

The homicide unit has been called in to investigate. <\/p>\n

There were no immediate details about the victim nor the circumstances surrounding the shooting. <\/p>\n

Paramedics told CTV News Toronto that they attended that area bit did not transport any patients to the hospital.<\/p>\n

They said they were originally called to 1295 Military Trail, near an overpass bridge for reports of a possible fall but said they were then directed down to the north side of the bridge.<\/p>\n

Shooting happened in a \u2018wooded area\u2019 near campus: UTSC<\/p>\n

In a statement provided to CP24 on Tuesday evening, UTSC said a shooting occurred in a \u201cwooded area\u201d near the University of Toronto\u2019s Scarborough campus on Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

\u201cU of T is aware of the situation and is actively working with Toronto Police Service who are on scene and leading this investigation. U of T locked down its Scarborough campus and sent out alerts to its community to notify its members about the matter,\u201d a spokesperson wrote in an email.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe lockdown has now ended on the advisement of Toronto Police Service. The pathways into the Highland Creek Valley remain closed and individuals are advised to avoid the valley until further notice.\u201d<\/p>\n

The university added that it\u2019s efforts are \u201cfocused on protecting the safety of our community and supporting police in their efforts to apprehend a suspect.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cToronto Police have advised this is an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the University of Toronto community,\u201d UTSC said, adding it does not have confirmation from Toronto Police about the identity of the victim and urged anyone with further questions to contact the authorities.<\/p>\n

University issued \u2018critical alert\u2019<\/p>\n

In a post on its website, UTSC issued a \u201ccritical alert\u201d indicating that the campus is closed due to a police operation. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe have received reports of a shooting in the Highland Creek Valley at UTSC. Police are responding. If you are in a UTSC building, stay where you are,\u201d the university said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you are outdoors near the site, leave the area immediately or seek safe shelter.\u201d<\/p>\n

University of Toronto Scarborough urged anyone who is on campus to follow instructions from emergency responders, campus safety, and\/or security personnel. <\/p>\n

\u201cAvoid the Valley until further notice,\u201d the post secondary institution said, adding updates will be posted online<\/a> as soon as they\u2019re available.<\/p>\n

In an update issued around 5:30 p.m., UTSC said the investigation is ongoing, adding that police have now advised them to lift the lock down. The shelter-in-place request is also no longer required, the university noted.<\/p>\n

\u201cContinue to avoid the Valley and the parking lot in the Valley,\u201d it said, adding pathways into the Valley remain closed and the Valley should be avoided \u201cuntil further notice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anyone in campus buildings can now leave, UTSC said.<\/p>\n
