The New York Yankees<\/a> have a major problem going into the 2026 season: they have no superstar starters to support Max Fried. Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon won\u2019t be available on Opening Day, leaving Fried all by his lonesome.<\/p>\n

It\u2019ll take a while for them to return as well, so they need to find a starter that can help Fried hold the line. Fansided\u2019s Christopher Kline<\/a> believes the Yanks can get an under-the-radar starter in Kansas City Royals<\/a> All-Star Michael Lorenzen.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe New York Yankees are in the position of needing a bridge starter, essentially, until Gerrit Cole, Clarke Schmidt and Carlos Rod\u00f3n can recover from injuries. Lorenzen isn’t the sexiest option, but he has the pedigree to warrant consideration. Better yet: He’s an experienced reliever and can transition to the bullpen as needed. New York can figure out which role suits him best at this stage,\u201d Kline wrote.<\/p>\n

This past season, Lorenzen had a strong start, but then the injury bug plagued him. He posted a 7-11 record, a 4.64 ERA, 127 Ks, and a WHIP of 1.327 over 141 innings pitched.<\/p>\n

This could be a smart move by New York. They get a guy who\u2019s projected to make $44 million on his next contract, he can hold the line until their stars return, and then become a premier bullpen arm that replaces Luke Weaver.<\/p>\n
