This didn\u2019t quite hit the funny bone for Chevy Chase<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The comedian, 82, revealed that being excluded from\u00a0\u201cSNL50: The Anniversary Special\u201d was a hurtful moment. <\/p>\n

\u201cWell, it was kind of upsetting actually,\u201d Chase<\/a> said in the upcoming CNN documentary,\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m Chevy Chase and You\u2019re Not.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThis is probably the first time I\u2019m saying it. But I expected that I would\u2019ve been on the stage too with all the other actors. When Garrett [Morris] and Laraine [Newman] went on the stage there, I was curious as to why I didn\u2019t. No one asked me to. Why was I left aside?\u201d<\/p>\n

He added about the special\u2019s \u201cWeekend Update\u201d segment: \u201cWhy was Bill Murray there and why was I not? I don\u2019t have an answer for that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chase was the first anchor of the segment during the show\u2019s debut season in 1975. The actor was an original cast member alongside Morris, 88, Newman, 73, Dan Aykroyd, 73, John Belushi, Jane Curtin, 78, and Gilda Radner.<\/p>\n

Chase left in the middle of Season 2 in 1976. However, the \u201cNational Lampoon\u2019s Vacation\u201d star hosted \u201cSNL\u201d eight times times between 1978 and 1997.<\/p>\n

\u201cI did bring it up once in a text to Lorne [Michaels] and then took it back,\u201d Chase admitted. \u201cI said, \u2018Okay, I take it back, silly.\u2019 But it\u2019s not that silly. Somebody\u2019s made a bad mistake there. I don\u2019t know who it was, but somebody made a mistake. They should\u2019ve had me on that stage. It hurt.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite not being asked to join in on the festivities, Jimmy Fallon gave the comic a mention during \u201cSNL 50: The Homecoming Concert,\u201d days before the main show. <\/p>\n

Chase\u2019s wife Jayni revealed in the doc that her husband was supposed to have a larger role in the special. <\/p>\n

She said that people \u201ctold Chevy up until that day that there were two bits, they were going back and forth.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then, all of the sudden, \u2018No, there\u2019s no bit,’\u201d stated Jayni, 68.<\/p>\n

Michaels, 81, confirmed the news himself. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere were a couple versions of [\u2018Weekend Update\u2019] and we went back and forth on that,\u201d he shared in the doc. \u201cThere was also a caution from somebody that I don\u2019t want to name that Chevy, you know, wasn\u2019t as focused.\u201d<\/p>\n

Regardless of not being included in the special, Chase still set foot in his old stomping grounds<\/a> at Studio 8H for the comedy series\u2019\u00a050th anniversary special.<\/p>\n

He has notoriously had a tumultuous relationship with the NBC variety show throughout the years.<\/p>\n

At the time, \u201cSaturday Night\u201d director Jason Reitman<\/a> also revealed what the comedian\u2019s response was to his 2024 film, which details the 90 minutes leading up to the first-ever broadcast of \u201cSNL.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cChevy loves to say the thing you\u2019re not supposed to say \u2014 to the extreme,\u201d he told\u00a0David Spade\u00a0and\u00a0Dana Carvey\u00a0on their\u00a0\u201cFly on the Wall\u201d podcast<\/a>\u00a0in December 2024. <\/p>\n

\u201cI have an example for you\u2026 So Chevy comes in to watch the movie, and he is there with [his wife] Jayni, and they watch the film, and he\u2019s in the group, and he comes up to me after, and he pats me on the shoulder and goes, \u2018Well, you should be embarrassed.\u2019\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cWhat an\u00a0exact\u00a0Chevy thing,\u201d Spade, 61, responded. \u201cYou couldn\u2019t even write it better.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reitman took the criticism in stride.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m trying to balance it because, in my head, I know, \u2018All right, I\u2019m getting a Chevy Chase moment that\u2019s 1,000 percent only for me right now,\u2019\u201d he shared. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd from a comedy point of view that\u2019s really pure, and that\u2019s kind of cool. But also, I just spent, like, two years of my life recreating this moment and trying to capture Chevy perfectly, and \u2014 even in the ego \u2014 find the humanity and give him a moment to be loved. And no, none of that s\u2013t played. He\u2019s not talking about that stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n
