Foo Fighters<\/a> have reportedly found their new drummer, while ex-sticksman Josh Freese has landed a new gig \u2013 find out more below.<\/p>\n

In May, the Foos announced that Josh Freese had been let go as their drummer,<\/a> with Freese saying he was \u201cshocked\u201d and \u201cdisappointed\u201d by the booting. He had joined the Foos as their touring drummer in 2023 following the sudden passing of their drummer Taylor Hawkins<\/a>\u00a0in March 2022.<\/p>\n

Since then, fans have been speculating who would be joining Dave Grohl<\/a> and co. behind the kit, including shortly-lived talks of Taylor Hawkins\u2019 son Shane<\/a>, and Soundgarden\/ex-Pearl Jam\u2019s Matt Cameron<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Now, The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>\u00a0has reported that Foo Fighters have locked in their new drummer, in the form of Nine Inch Nails<\/a>\u2018 Ilan Rubin. This comes according to anonymous sources, though it is worth noting that neither the Foos nor Ilan have confirmed the news themselves.<\/p>\n

Besides his work with Nine Inch Nails, Ilan Rubin had also recorded the drums for Paramore<\/a>\u2018s 2013 self-titled album, and performed with Danny Elfman<\/a> and more.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Nine Inch Nails have seemingly confirmed Ilan Rubin\u2019s departure from their line-up, and have shared an image of ex-Foos drummer Josh Freese with the caption \u201cLet\u2019s fucking GO\u201d. This seemingly confirms that Freese will now step in as Nine Inch Nails\u2019 new drummer.<\/p>\n

This will mark Freese\u2019s second stint with Nine Inch Nails, as he had previously served as the band\u2019s drummer between 2005 and 2008 \u2013 before he was ironically replaced by Ilan Rubin.<\/p>\n

Freese has since commented on returning to Nine Inch Nails: \u201cLeaving Nine Inch Nails at the end of 2008 was one of the hardest decisions I\u2019ve ever had to make. My wife and I were expecting our third child, and I knew I needed to step away from life on the road to be home with my family. NIN was a band that left me walking off stage every night, thinking \u2018That was incredible. We absolutely crushed it.\u2019 And it wasn\u2019t just a feeling, it was a certainty. That level of intensity, pride and satisfaction after each show is something I\u2019ve rarely experienced anywhere else.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cNow, being back on tour with Trent and the crew \u2013 helping them do what they do best night after night \u2013 is something I\u2019m incredibly excited about. To be part of that energy again feels amazing. If you get a chance to catch one of these shows over the next six weeks, I promise, they\u2019re going to be absolutely unforgettable. Hope to see you out there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following his shock firing from the Foos in May, Freese wrote that \u201cthe Foo Fighters called me Monday night to let me know they\u2019ve decided \u2018to go in a different direction with their drummer\u2019.<\/a> No reason was given. Regardless, I enjoyed the past two years with them, both on and off stage and I support whatever they feel is best for the band.\u201d<\/p>\n

He later\u00a0jokingly shared 10 possible reasons why he was \u201cbooted\u201d from the band<\/a>, including whistling \u201c\u2018My Hero\u2019 for a week solid on tour\u201d and \u201cstarting every rehearsal with a 20 minute cowbell sound bath\u201d.<\/p>\n

In May, it was announced that the Foo Fighters will play their first show of 2025 at the Singapore F1 Grand Prix<\/a>. He also recently appeared on a new\u00a0Ed Sheeran<\/a>\u00a0track titled \u2018Drive<\/a>\u2018 for the\u00a0F1 soundtrack. Since then, they\u2019ve shared a nifty cover of Minor Threat\u2019s \u2018I Don\u2019t Wanna Hear It\u2019<\/a>, and in early July marked their 30th anniversary with a new single, \u2018Today\u2019s Song\u2019<\/a>. Grohl also thanked every former member of the band for their contributions throughout the years.<\/p>\n

The comeback gigs in October will also mark the band\u2019s first appearances together since Dave Grohl courted controversy last September when he revealed that he had fathered a daughter outside of his marriage<\/a>.<\/p>\n
