The North Bay OPP\u00a0have charged an East Ferris resident with impaired driving and multiple offences following an investigation into intimate partner violence (IPV).<\/p>\n
On Saturday, December 20, at 11:15 p.m., officers responded to a report of an assault\u00a0at a residence in East Ferris. When police arrived, the attacker\u00a0had fled the scene in a vehicle.<\/p>\n
Police located the vehicle travelling westbound on Highway 17 near Sturgeon Falls.<\/p>\n
An initial attempt to stop the vehicle resulted in the driver fleeing at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was located a short time later, and the driver was arrested.<\/p>\n
Officers determined the driver had been consuming alcohol and was taken\u00a0to the West Nipissing detachment for further testing. The driver refused to comply with a breath demand.<\/p>\n
A\u00a046-year-old from East Ferris is\u00a0charged with:<\/p>\n
\n\tOperation while impaired – alcohol
\n\tFailure or refusal to comply with a demand
\n\tAssault causing bodily harm – choke, suffocate or strangle
\n\tFlight from a peace officer
\n\tBreak, enter a place – commit an indictable offence
\n\tMischief – destroys or damages property
\n\tDriving a motor vehicle with liquor readily available

OPP say due to the intimate partner nature of the incident, the name of the accused will not be released to protect the victim’s identity.<\/p>\n
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in January of 2026, in North Bay. Additionally, they received a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.<\/p>\n
