Cheating in NASCAR isn\u2019t uncommon, especially in the days before laser scanners. If you weren\u2019t cheating, you weren\u2019t even trying. <\/p>\n
Dale Earnhardt Jr isn\u2019t shy to share those stories. Since his retirement from the NASCAR Cup Series in 2016, he\u2019s opened up about many stories of ingenuity in the sport.<\/p>\n
Back in the COT era, the No. 8 team attempted to clear tech with illegal wing mounts. And after NASCAR caught them and removed the parts from the car, a crew member almost grabbed them and ran off\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cWe got busted because we went to Darlington, the COT had just come out and Tony Jr had figured out something,\u201d Dale Earnhardt Jr stated.<\/p>\n
Tony Gibson added, \u201cWe made wing mounts. We found out that the distance between the wing and the decklid was where the downforce came from.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd the only way to really tell was if you measured between the decklid and the wing. So, we\u2019re pushing through tech and we had already made it out of the tech line, pushing it up the hill.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd, here comes officials. \u2018Hold on stop.\u2019 They\u2019re like, \u2018Take those wing mounts off.\u2019 \u201c<\/p>\n
\u201cI looked at two beer and I said, \u2018Two beer, they got us.\u2019 They got them wing mounts that they just took off our car, laying that table.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cTwo beer looks at me and goes, \u2018Old man, \u2018I\u2019m going to grab those wing mounts right there and I\u2019m going to take off running.\u2019 He says, \u2018If they can\u2019t find them, they can\u2019t throw us out.\u2019 \u201c<\/p>\n
\u201cI said, \u2018Two beer, they already know.\u2019 He\u2019s like, \u2018I\u2019m getting ready to grab them and I\u2019m going to take off running. I\u2019ll be out of this place in no time.\u2019 \u201c<\/p>\n
\u201cI said, \u2018Two beer, they\u2019ll have dogs and helicopters after you here in about 15 seconds.\u2019 I said, \u2018It\u2019s over!\u2019 \u201c<\/p>\n
