However, no deal has been made, despite the Blue Jays’ interest in the star infielder.

With Bichette still a free agent, MLB insider Andrew Simon of MLB.com predicted the star hitter will leave the Blue Jays and sign with the San Francisco Giants.

“The Giants have won between 79-81 games in each of the past four seasons and have just one season with a win percentage over .500 (and one with a playoff berth) since 2017,” Simon wrote. “It’s a team very much in need of star-level talent. Even after the recent acquisitions of third baseman Matt Chapman, shortstop Willy Adames and first baseman Rafael Devers.

“Tucker or one of the market’s top starting pitchers would also make sense here. But Bichette would fill a potential weak spot at second — where they project near the bottom of the league — and round out a star-studded (if expensive) infield. His contact-oriented, line-drive approach could also be a good fit at Oracle Park. An extremely tough venue for home runs but one that’s favorable for other types of hits.”

Bichette would have to slide over to second base with the Giants, but would reunite with Matt Chapman. He would also add an impact bat to San Francisco’s lineup, which needs some help if the Giants are going to contend in the deep NL West.

Blue Jays Not Ruling Out a Bichette Reunion

Bichette has spent his entire career with the Blue Jays and has been an impact bat for the team.

Yet, no deal was reached during the season, and to begin the offseason, he remains a free agent. But, Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins said the team would remain in Bichette’s market.

“Great player,” Atkins said of Bichette after the World Series. “Bo’s been a significant part of us being in a strong position today and a reason that we’re coming off five solid seasons of baseball and one really, really good year of baseball. He’s had a lot to do with it. I know he’s going to be attractive to the market. We’ll be in his market.”

Bichette could very well sign a short-term deal to get back into free agency next offseason. Or, he could sign a multi-year deal reaching upwards of $200 million.

Bichette is a two-time All-Star.

Toronto Looking to Get Better

The Blue Jays losing out on Bichette would be a tough blow to the team.

Toronto lost in Game 7 of the World Series, and the team is looking to build off that. The Blue Jays have been active this offseason, but CEO and President Mark Shapiro believes the team has to make more moves.

“My philosophy on free agents is there is no such thing as close,” Shapiro said on MLB Network Radio on Sunday. “You either are done, or you are not done; there is nothing in between.
