While the Edmonton Oilers have not confirmed the story, in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vf.se\/2025\/12\/25\/david-tomasek-pa-vag-att-atervanda-till-farjestad-cc3ac\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">an article titled<\/a>, \u201cTom\u00e1sek flies to Europe \u2013 formalities before FBK return are complete,\u201d it appears his NHL run and time with the Edmonton Oilers is coming to an end. <\/p>\n<p>Tomasek and the Oilers are rumored to have mutually agreed to terminate his contract, clearing the way for him to return to the SHL.<\/p>\n<p>For the Oilers, the move means no trade was required and the team regains the cap space, giving them added flexibility moving forward.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a tough break for Tomasek, who never really got a full opportunity to establish himself. He showed flashes and had a few solid moments, but long-term, he was unlikely to get the opportunity he needed to prove himself in the NHL and earn another contract or a deal with another team in free agency next summer. <\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/David-Tomasek-Oilers-game.jpg\" alt=\"David Tomasek Oilers game\" class=\"wp-image-102389\"  \/>David Tomasek Oilers game<\/p>\n<p>A skilled forward, the knock on Tomasek was his skating, which arguably wasn\u2019t where it needed to be in order to be an impact forward in the NHL. It\u2019s hard to see a path where he stuck even in a top-nine role, as the pace just wasn\u2019t quite there.<\/p>\n<p>Tom\u00e1\u0161ek previously played for F\u00e4rjestad from 2022 to 2024 before making the jump to the NHL. The Oilers <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/EdmontonOilers\/status\/1907493189705150962?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">signed him to a one-year deal<\/a> this past summer in the hopes he could play a top-nine role and earn as spot as a reliable offensive threat.
