{"id":37008,"date":"2025-07-31T14:04:12","date_gmt":"2025-07-31T14:04:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/37008\/"},"modified":"2025-07-31T14:04:12","modified_gmt":"2025-07-31T14:04:12","slug":"nick-kyrgios-and-emma-raducanu-both-react-on-social-media-as-eugenie-bouchard-retires-from-tennis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/37008\/","title":{"rendered":"Nick Kyrgios and Emma Raducanu both react on social media as Eugenie Bouchard retires from tennis"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Eugenie Bouchard has officially retired from professional tennis after playing her final match at the Canadian Open.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/eugenie-bouchard-explains-why-playing-tennis-is-just-not-worth-it-anymore-ahead-of-her-retirement-in-montreal\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bouchard has admitted tennis is not worth it<\/a> for her anymore, announcing that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/canadian-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Canadian Open<\/a> would be her final tournament.<\/p>\n<p>The former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wimbledon\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wimbledon<\/a> finalist showed some of her best tennis in her opening match, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/eugenie-bouchard-claims-the-montreal-crowd-did-something-amazing-in-her-latest-match-which-made-her-lose-focus\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bouchard beating Emiliana Arango<\/a> in front of a packed home crowd.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/jessica-pegula-gives-her-honest-opinion-on-eugenie-bouchards-decision-to-retire-from-tennis-at-the-age-of-31\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bouchard has received many messages of support<\/a> since her retirement announcement, and after losing her second round match she has received two more from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/nick-kyrgios\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nick Kyrgios<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/emma-raducanu\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Emma Raducanu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"626\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GettyImages-2227113056-1024x626.jpg\" alt=\"Eugenie Bouchard of Canada during her retirement ceremony after the second round of the National Bank Open at Stade IGA.\" \/>Photo by Robert Prange\/Getty ImagesNick Kyrgios and Emma Raducanu send messages to Eugenie Bouchard<\/p>\n<p>Despite leading by a break in the deciding set of the match, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/eugenie-bouchard\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bouchard<\/a> was beaten by 17th seed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/belinda-bencic\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Belinda Bencic<\/a>, 6-2 3-6 6-4.<\/p>\n<p>There was a big ovation for Bouchard after the match, who was clearly very emotional in the ceremony on the Centre Court in Montreal.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The messages have come flooding in for the former world number five, led by Kyrgios who sent Bouchard a message on X (formerly known as Twitter).<\/p>\n<p>Kyrgios wrote, \u201cGreat career @geniebouchard (followed by a series of emojis). \u201cEnjoy whatever is next.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It was not just Kyrgios who congratulated Bouchard on her career, with the aforementioned Raducanu also wishing the Canadian well not long after she won her own singles match in Montreal.<\/p>\n<p>In an Instagram story, Raducanu wrote, \u201cThank you Genie, loved watching you compete and play. Wish you all the best for your next chapter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eugenie Bouchard Career Achievements<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/features\/what-martina-navratilova-once-said-eugenie-bouchard-had-the-potential-to-achieve-that-never-actually-came-true\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Martina Navratilova noticed Bouchard\u2019s potential<\/a> from a young age, with her breakout season coming in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>It was that year where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/eugenie-bouchard-admits-the-big-regret-she-has-about-her-tennis-career-10-years-on-from-making-the-wimbledon-final\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bouchard reached the Wimbledon final<\/a>, alongside her semifinals at both the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/australian-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Australian Open<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/french-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Roland Garros<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Despite reaching a career-high ranking of world number five, Bouchard only ever actually won one title that came at the Nuremberg Cup in 2014.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GettyImages-493519653-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"Eugenie Bouchard of Canada kisses the trophy after defeating Karolina Pliskova of Czech Republic during Day 8 of the Nuernberger Versicherungscup.\" \/>Photo by Dennis Grombkowski\/Bongarts\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Bouchard is still only 31 years old, but she has been less and less active on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wta\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WTA Tour<\/a> in recent years and has only played 35 matches in the last four years.<\/p>\n<p>Part of her inactivity has been related to injury, with Bouchard undergoing shoulder surgery in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Bouchard has also been partaking in other ventures, including switching to another sport in pickleball.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Eugenie Bouchard has officially retired from professional tennis after playing her final match at the Canadian Open.
