{"id":371371,"date":"2025-12-27T04:26:04","date_gmt":"2025-12-27T04:26:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/371371\/"},"modified":"2025-12-27T04:26:04","modified_gmt":"2025-12-27T04:26:04","slug":"oilers-29-year-old-forward-leaving-nhl-mid-season-to-sign-contract-in-sweden","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/371371\/","title":{"rendered":"Oilers&#8217; 29-year old forward leaving NHL mid-season to sign contract in Sweden"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportingnews.com\/ca\/nhl\/edmonton-oilers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Edmonton Oilers<\/a> are losing a forward in the middle of the season.<\/p>\n<p>David Tomasek is heading back to Sweden.<\/p>\n<p>Officially, the Oilers announced Friday that they&#8217;re placing Tomasek on waivers &#8220;for the purpose of contract termination.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And the reports out of Sweden are that Tomasek is signing a contract to play for Farjestad BK in the domestic professional league there.<\/p>\n<p>Tomasek signed a one-year contract with the Oilers in April that was for $1.2 million in the 2025-26 season.<\/p>\n<p>He was initially ticketed for the AHL, but Zach Hyman&#8217;s injury brought Tomasek to the NHL.<\/p>\n<p>MORE:\u00a0<a target=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sportingnews.com\/ca\/nhl\/los-angeles-kings\/news\/la-kings-goalie-phoenix-copley-north-pole\/87f96ac6a4733c958c409ff3\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">L.A. Kings&#8217; goalie is from the North Pole<\/a><\/p>\n<p>When Hyman returned, it relegated Tomasek to a partial role, playing in eight of the 19 games since Hyman was back.<\/p>\n<p>Tomasek has three goals and two assists in 22 games this season.<\/p>\n<p>The 29-year old is heading back to the team he played for for two seasons before coming to Edmonton.<\/p>\n<p>In 2024-25, Tomasek had 57 points in 47 games for Farjestad.<\/p>\n<p>Now, he returns to a place he is clearly comfortable and will surely see much more time on the ice.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a bit of a depth loss for the Oilers, but if Edmonton stays healthy, it likely won&#8217;t be hurt too much by this loss.<\/p>\n<p>MORE:\u00a0<a target=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sportingnews.com\/ca\/nhl\/edmonton-oilers\/news\/oilers-connor-mcdavid-makes-hockey-history-not-done-nhl-decades\/8717ae861ee119b52d5e5d3a\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Connor McDavid made NHL history that hasn&#8217;t been done in decades<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Edmonton Oilers are losing a forward in the middle of the season.
