Pro-Palestine protesters took to Toronto\u2019s Eaton Centre on one of the busiest shopping days of the year, prompting mixed reactions from shoppers.<\/p>\n

The blizzard outside did little to stop Toronto shoppers this Boxing Day, as hundreds flocked to the largest shopping mall in the city to take advantage of the extended hours and deals.<\/p>\n

This holiday season, the mall has been offering a light and indoor snow show every hour on the hour from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.<\/p>\n

Yesterday, when the clock struck 4 o\u2019clock, the display of dazzling lights began along with chants by pro-Palestine protesters.<\/p>\n

\u201cCarney, Carney, you can\u2019t hide,\u201d protesters could be heard chanting across multiple videos circulating online. \u201cYou\u2019re supporting genocide.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we don\u2019t get no justice, then you don\u2019t get no peace,\u201d they were heard chanting.<\/p>\n

The protest, organized by Palestinian Youth Movement, called on the Carney government to impose an arms embargo on Israel.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was incredibly well organized,\u201d one participant commented on the organizer\u2019s social media post. \u201cHuge respect to all the organizers.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIn this weather condition? You guys are amazing,\u201d wrote another supporter, as the city recorded over eight centimeters of snow.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo happy to see such a powerful protest on the busiest shopping day of the year,\u201d another Instagram user commented.<\/p>\n

Up for debate following the demonstration was the organizer\u2019s choice of location, as people questioned whether it was the right place at the right time.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople were not there to debate geopolitics. They were there to shop, work, and spend time with family in peace,\u201d one X user wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is private property, so how is this allowed to persist? During the season most likely to make or break your business. The tenants should sue,\u201d one X user suggested.<\/p>\n

While many came to the defence of peaceful protests, the fact that the protest took place on private property drew criticism.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeaceful protest is protected. Disrupting public spaces with zero enforcement isn\u2019t,\u201d another reasoned. \u201cLaws that aren\u2019t enforced aren\u2019t laws, they\u2019re suggestions.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone has a right to peaceful protest in Canada, but this is private property. Take your protest to a public space in Toronto,\u201d another said.<\/p>\n

As the city looks ahead to its New Year\u2019s Eve celebration at the Harbourfront Centre, there is a pro-Palestinian protest scheduled at the same location starting at 11 p.m.<\/p>\n
