Former Michael Schumacher engineer Luigi Mazzola has placed much of the blame for Lewis Hamilton<\/a>\u2019s disappointing 2025 season at Ferrari<\/a> on the team itself.\u201cI\u2019d say a large part of the responsibility lies with the team as well\u201d- Luigi Mazzola<\/p>\n

While acknowledging that some responsibility does lie with the driver, the Italian engineer told NewsF1 that Ferrari could \u2014 and should \u2014 have done more to put better tools in Hamilton\u2019s hands and meet him halfway.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t put all the blame on Hamilton \u2014 I don\u2019t see it as a case of saying, \u2018You, Hamilton, messed everything up.\u2019 I\u2019d say a large part of the responsibility lies with the team as well. Because over 24 races, you simply can\u2019t still have failed to understand how this guy drives, or at the very least not be able to give him a car that works consistently for him.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything that\u2019s been said is true \u2014 the cultural shift, the language, the food, the procedures, whatever you like.<\/p>\n

“But a driver is like a machine when he\u2019s in the car: you tell him what this thing is doing, and he isolates himself, gets on with it, and goes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mazzola was also keen not to throw race engineer Riccardo Adami under the bus, with the Italian often finding himself in the media spotlight this year following a series of team radio exchanges with Hamilton that highlighted a lack of communicative chemistry between the two.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe real problem comes when there\u2019s a car he simply can\u2019t drive. That\u2019s what leaves me a bit puzzled. And I don\u2019t even blame the race engineer either, who\u2019s been under fairly heavy scrutiny, because I don\u2019t know how much freedom a race engineer actually has when it comes to deciding what can be done to the car.\u201d<\/p>\n

The seven-time world champion\u2019s first season in Maranello was far from straightforward, hampered by a car with which the Briton never truly felt at ease \u2014 aside from a few fleeting flashes of class, such as pole position and victory in the Sprint in China, or his fourth-place finish at Silverstone.<\/p>\n

The former Haas team principal believes Hamilton still has plenty left to give despite his age, provided Ferrari meet one fundamental requirement next year.<\/p>\n
