Starting pitcher Andrew Heaney<\/a> announced via social media on Sunday his retirement from Major League Baseball after 12 seasons. Most notably, a Los Angeles Angels<\/a> starter (seven seasons), Heaney also spent time with the New York Yankees<\/a>, Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Pittsburgh Pirates.<\/p>\n

Heaney\u2019s 2025 season was spent with the Dodgers and Pirates, but his time in baseball appeared to be coming to an end after posting a 5.52 ERA over 122.1 innings this past season. However, Andrew Heaney leaves behind a pretty successful MLB<\/a> career, and Heavy on Sports wishes him well in whatever post-baseball venture life has in store for him.<\/p>\n

As most athletes do in this social media era, Andrew Heaney posted a lengthy message<\/a> tailored towards those who helped him achieve all that he accomplished over his career:<\/p>\n

\u201cI will miss the game greatly, but all of my experiences and the lasting relationships have made me a better person,\u201d Heaney wrote.\u00a0 \u201cThe routine of showing up to the yard every day and working to improve each time out has been a driving force for me\u2026I am now ready to return my focus and energy to being a husband, father, family man, and active member of my community.\u00a0 I\u2019m retiring from baseball, but I hope to give back more than I received.\u00a0 Thank you to all of you for the love and support you have given me.\u00a0 Y\u2019all know who you are.\u201d<\/p>\n

Heaney pitched in 35.2 innings as a Yankee in 2021 and posted a 7.32 ERA in that span, as most New York fans would like to forget his tenure in pinstripes. To no surprise, the Yankees did not retain him, and his 2022 season was spent with the Dodgers. The Texas Rangers<\/a> then signed him for the 2023 season, where he was rewarded with a World Series ring for his contribution during their title run.<\/p>\n

Heaney\u2019s Career #\u2019s + Journey to MLB<\/p>\n

Andrew Heaney came up with the Miami Marlins<\/a> in 2014, but was flipped in a two-part trade that sent him to the Angels, where he settled in as a big leaguer.<\/p>\n

In seven seasons with the Angels, he posted a 4.51 ERA over 102 starts and struck out 593 batters.<\/p>\n

After the Angels, he floated around from various MLB organizations. However, Heaney leaves the game of baseball with a career 4.57 ERA over 1136.2 innings.<\/p>\n

His bug-a-boo throughout his career had been his susceptibility to the home run ball. He gave up a total of 199 long balls in his career and had multiple seasons giving up 25+ home runs.<\/p>\n

Injuries had been a factor throughout Heaney\u2019s career, as is the case with most pitchers, but for him to make out a 12-year career is no doubt impressive.<\/p>\n
