Wednesday is the \u201cfinal date for the Kraft family and the city of Boston to reach a community impact agreement for a proposed professional soccer stadium across the river in Everett,\u201d set to house the Revolution, according to Hadley Barndollar of MASSLIVE.com. A Massachusetts state law passed last year \u201crequired the Kraft Group to sign mitigation agreements with the cities of Everett and Boston to construct the stadium on a 43.11-acre parcel of brownfields land that is currently home to a shuttered portion of a power plant.\u201d Under the law, negotiations between Boston and the Krafts \u201centered mediation when the sides could not agree on terms by May 1.\u201d If a deal has not been reached by Wednesday, \u201cbinding arbitration will be triggered in front of a panel including a representative from each party and a neutral arbitrator.\u201d City officials and representatives for the Kraft Group have been \u201cmeeting for months in hopes of reaching an agreement.\u201d Boston Mayor Michelle Wu previously said the Kraft Group\u2019s offer of $750,000 to offset the impact of the 25,000-seat stadium was \u201can unserious proposal.\u201d Wu in August said the offer \u201cdoes not come close to reflecting the strain the stadium would place on our infrastructure, our transportation systems and on our neighborhoods.\u201d Barndollar notes the Kraft Group \u201ccriticized her press conference at the time as politically motivated\u201d — as Josh Kraft was running against her for the Boston mayorship (MASSLIVE.com, 12\/29<\/a>).<\/p>\n

HARD FEELINGS: In Boston, Joan Vennochi writes Wu has \u201cbeen an annoying fly in the year\u2019s ointment\u201d for the Krafts, as she has the \u201cpower to hold up the family\u2019s long-running effort\u201d towards the new stadium for the Revolution. A source said that Kraft Group President Jonathan Kraft has been \u201cprimarily involved in the negotiations,\u201d but Robert Kraft has \u201cbecome more involved in the past week.\u201d Vennochi notes when Josh Kraft was \u201cstill challenging her, Wu turned the stadium into a major campaign issue.\u201d She said that the Kraft Group had \u201cnot given Boston enough information about its plans for traffic, local hiring, noise limits, and climate resilience.\u201d But Josh Kraft, in turn, \u201ccalled out Wu for what he said was a lack of transparency regarding the cost of her plan to develop a soccer stadium in Franklin Park<\/a>\u201d in partnership with an NWSL club. With the Everett stadium, Wu has \u201cinsisted the negotiations are all about getting the most for Boston.\u201d But the \u201ccampaign between Wu and Josh Kraft did get personal on both sides.\u201d Vennochi: \u201cCan she put those feelings aside and strike a deal with the Kraft family?
