\u201cIt\u2019s what he has been dealing with all year,\u201d Carolina coach Rod Brind\u2019Amour said. \u201cHe has decided to have surgery, so he\u2019s going to be out for probably the year.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kochetkov is 6-2-0 this season with a 2.33 goals against average in nine outings. He has yet to undergo the surgery.<\/p>\n
\u201cDidn\u2019t feel right all year,\u201d Brind\u2019Amour said. \u201cHe has been playing great, so that\u2019s the hard part. He has been kind of fighting through it. But he doesn\u2019t want to continue that way, so we\u2019ll get it fixed and go from there.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kochetkov, 26, had been slated to be in the net against the Rangers. He\u00a0shut out New York\u00a0with 26 saves on Nov. 4 in New York.<\/p>\n
His last outing,\u00a0Dec. 20 at Tampa Bay, he allowed five goals on 28 shots to the Lightning.<\/p>\n
The Hurricanes are likely to rely even more heavily on\u00a0rookie goalie Brandon Bussi, who drew Monday night\u2019s assignment. Veteran Frederik Andersen has been erratic in 15 games with a 5-8-2 record, with losses in his last seven appearances.<\/p>\n
It has been a challenging opening 2 1\/2 months for the Hurricanes because of injuries. Seth Jarvis, who leads the team with 19 goals, sat out his fourth consecutive game Monday with an injury.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou lose arguably your best player offensively in that spot, so you\u2019ve got to fill it,\u201d Brind\u2019Amour said.<\/p>\n
The Hurricanes, who lead the Metropolitan Division, claimed forward Noah Philp off waivers from the Edmonton Oilers. He wasn\u2019t available to play Monday.<\/p>\n
Carolina played without Shayne Gostisbehere, whose 29 points are more than twice any other defenceman on the team. He had three points Saturday night, but was scratched with an ailment.<\/p>\n
Defenceman K\u2019Andre Miller moved back into the lineup to face his former team. Defenceman Gavin Bayreuther, who was recalled earlier in the day from Chicago of the AHL, was scratched.<\/p>\n
Brind\u2019Amour said the Hurricanes had a couple of seasons without long injury lists. Now, he regularly juggles lineups.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is kind of unprecedented,\u201d he said. \u201cEvery team has a certain degree of it. \u2026 You got to figure it out.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Hurricanes had season-worst three-game losing streak before\u00a0winning Saturday\u00a0against the Atlantic Division-leading Detroit Red Wings.<\/p>\n
