{"id":376590,"date":"2025-12-30T05:08:17","date_gmt":"2025-12-30T05:08:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/376590\/"},"modified":"2025-12-30T05:08:17","modified_gmt":"2025-12-30T05:08:17","slug":"russian-manufacturing-activity-falls-for-seventh-straight-month-as-2025-ends","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/376590\/","title":{"rendered":"Russian Manufacturing Activity Falls for Seventh Straight Month as 2025 Ends"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Russia\u2019s manufacturing sector continued to weaken at the end of 2025, with business activity declining for a seventh consecutive month, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pmi.spglobal.com\/Public\/Home\/PressRelease\/0c7d08c76621425ca90eac755b9d5dbb\" title=\"survey\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">survey<\/a> by S&amp;P Global.<\/p>\n<p>S&amp;P Global\u2019s Purchasing Managers\u2019 Index (PMI) for Russian manufacturing\u00a0fell to 48.1 in December compared to 48.3 last month.\u00a0A\u00a0PMI value above 50 points indicates growth, whereas anything below signifies a decline.<\/p>\n<p>Companies reported declines in both output and new orders, with production falling at its fastest pace since March 2022, S&amp;P Global said.<\/p>\n<p>Respondents attributed weaker sales to cautious customers and falling purchasing power.<\/p>\n<p>Expectations for the year ahead slid to their lowest level since May 2022, prompting companies to cut employment again and reduce purchasing activity amid worsening outlooks, the survey said.<\/p>\n<p>Input costs rose at their fastest pace since March, with firms passing on higher expenses to customers by raising prices.<\/p>\n<p>Dmitry Belousov of the Center for Macroeconomic Analysis and Short-Term Forecasting (CMASF) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forecast.ru\/_ARCHIVE\/Presentations\/DBelousov\/202511.pdf\" title=\"noted\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a> that company managers have not expressed such persistently negative sentiment since the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Official industrial output data for December have not yet been released.<\/p>\n<p>November figures <a href=\"https:\/\/rosstat.gov.ru\/storage\/mediabank\/200_24-12-2025.html\" title=\"showed\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">showed<\/a> a 1.5% month-on-month decline after seasonal adjustment as well as a 0.7% year-on-year decrease.<\/p>\n<p>A temporary uptick in October proved short-lived, with output in September-November rising only 0.2% per month on average, CMASF <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forecast.ru\/_ARCHIVE\/Analitics\/PROM\/2025\/PR-OTR_2025-12-25.pdf\" title=\"said\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Recent fluctuations have largely been driven by sectors with significant defense-industry involvement, while output in the civilian core of manufacturing has stagnated for the past four months, CMASF said.<\/p>\n<p>Even President Vladimir Putin has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.interfax.ru\/business\/1061075\" title=\"acknowledged\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">acknowledged<\/a> emerging \u201cimbalances\u201d in the economy, with output falling in several industries.<\/p>\n<p>Vladimir Potanin, one of Russia\u2019s wealthiest businessmen and co-owner of mining giant Norilsk Nickel, described the current period as a test of business resilience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRight now, we are going through a period of&#8230;
