Marvel has officially released the Thor-themed Avengers: Doomsday<\/a> trailer online, with an X-Men trailer set to replace it in theaters.<\/p>\n

The Thor trailer, below, launched in theaters last week ahead of Disney\u2019s Avatar: Fire and Ash<\/a>, replacing the Steve Rogers \/ Captain America trailer that had kicked off the Avengers: Doomsday hype train a year out from the movie\u2019s release.<\/p>\n

The teaser shows Chris Hemsworth\u2019s Thor (this time with the short-haired look from the much-loved and hugely successful Thor Ragnarok) pray to his father, Odin (played by Anthony Hopkins in the MCU), calling for the \u201cstrength of the All-Fathers\u201d so he may \u201cfight once more\u2026 defeat one more enemy and return home to her.\u201d<\/p>\n

That\u2019s a reference to Thor’s adopted daughter, Love (Gorr the God Butcher’s resurrected daughter from Thor: Love and Thunder). Here is Thor\u2019s prayer in full:<\/p>\n

Father…all my life, I have answered every call…to honor, duty, to war.But now fate has given me something I never sought…a child…a life untouched by the storm.Lend me the strength of the All-Fathers…so that I may fight once more.Defeat one more enemyand return home to her.Not as a warriorbut as warmth.To teach her not battlebut stillness.The kind I never knew.Please Father heed my words.<\/p>\n

What we\u2019ve seen so far of Avengers: Doomsday does seem to revolve around children. The Fantastic Four: First Steps ended with Robert Downey Jr.\u2019s Doctor Doom appearing to kidnap Franklin Richards. The Steve Rogers \/ Captain America teaser for Avengers: Doomsday<\/a> shows Chris Evans\u2019 character holding a baby, presumably his child with Peggy Carter.<\/p>\n

The Thor trailer shows Love safe and sound at home with Thor, so there\u2019s no suggestion here that Doctor Doom is after her, too. But it’s certainly a darker tone than we\u2019ve seen from Thor\u2019s recent MCU appearances<\/a>, and some are wondering if they should prepare themselves for the character dying.<\/p>\n

The Most Surprising Avengers and Marvel Characters Not Announced for Doomsday\"Despite<\/p>\n

In May, Chris Hemsworth released a tribute video titled \u2018Thank You! The Legacy of Thor,\u2019 which included clips of the actor as Thor going as far back as an audition tape right up to his performance in 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder. Some fans took it as a farewell video<\/a>. Hemsworth later insisted the video was \u201ca moment of gratitude, and it wasn\u2019t anything else.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last year, Hemsworth admitted he “didn’t stick the landing” with the divisive Thor: Love and Thunder and said he felt he owed fans another film<\/a>. Speaking to Vanity Fair<\/a>, Hemsworth said he had become too wacky in Love and Thunder and the film suffered as a result, perhaps especially following Thor: Ragnarok<\/a>, which became somewhat of a breakout success for the character by adding more comedy elements.<\/p>\n

“I got caught up in the improv and the wackiness, and I became a parody of myself,” Hemsworth said. “I didn’t stick the landing.” He couldn’t forgive himself for the performance, Vanity Fair said at the time, so felt he owed fans another film. Could Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars count as that film, or would Thor 5 be more appropriate as a goodbye?<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, this week’s X-Men trailer has, predictably, leaked online<\/a>. Assuming Marvel follows the pattern established by the Steve Rogers and Thor trailers, we can expect to see the X-Men trailer released online officially next week after its run in theaters. As for what the fourth Avengers: Doomsday teaser will be, fans are expecting a look at Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.<\/p>\n
