{"id":378091,"date":"2025-12-30T22:10:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-30T22:10:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/378091\/"},"modified":"2025-12-30T22:10:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-30T22:10:08","slug":"liv-golf-makes-another-huge-change-ahead-of-2026-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/378091\/","title":{"rendered":"LIV Golf makes (another) huge change ahead of 2026 season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s not just the number of holes that is changing when the fifth LIV Golf campaign gets underway\u2026<\/p>\n<p>LIV Golf has made yet another announcement regarding its format.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of its fifth season, the league had already announced, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.todays-golfer.com\/news-and-events\/tour-news\/liv-golf-events-to-become-72-holes\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">to mixed reviews<\/a>, that it would be moving to 72-hole tournaments. <\/p>\n<p>Now, with the golf world still reeling from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.todays-golfer.com\/news-and-events\/tour-news\/brooks-koepka-quits-liv-golf\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brooks Koepka\u2019s decision to leave LIV Golf<\/a>, it has revealed its field size at each event will increase from 54 to 57, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.todays-golfer.com\/news-and-events\/tour-news\/liv-golf-offseason-window\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">13 teams<\/a> now being joined by five wildcards rather than the previous two. <\/p>\n<p>Three of these will come from the upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.todays-golfer.com\/news-and-events\/tour-news\/liv-golf-promotions\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">LIV Golf Promotions<\/a> event, while the others will be Scott Vincent and Yosuke Asaji, who earned their spots by finishing as the top two in the Asian Tour\u2019s season-long Order of Merit. This is also confirmation that they will play as wildcards rather than joining existing teams.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement announcing the decision, LIV\u2019s CEO Scott O\u2019Neil said the league is \u201ccommitted to moving the sport forward by expanding opportunity and access. <\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cWe are opening pathways \u2013 creating more chances for top talent to compete in the world\u2019s golf league. Adding another qualifying spot strengthens our field and adds excitement to a season built on opportunity, competition, and growth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The LIV Golf Promotions event, which features a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.todays-golfer.com\/news-and-events\/tour-news\/liv-golf-promotions\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">number of household names<\/a> including a Ryder Cup player and DP World Tour favorite, will take place at Black Diamond Ranch, Florida, in January, with the 2026 LIV Golf season <a href=\"https:\/\/www.todays-golfer.com\/news-and-events\/tour-news\/liv-golf-2026-schedule\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">getting underway in February<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Official World Golf Ranking released a statement saying \u201cprogress has been made\u201d as it continues to discuss <a href=\"https:\/\/www.todays-golfer.com\/news-and-events\/tour-news\/liv-golf-ceo-confident-about-getting-owgr-points\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">LIV\u2019s application for inclusion<\/a>, but fails to go into any further detail.<\/p>\n<p>OWGR chairman Trevor Immelman said: \u201cSince the end of June, the governing board has endeavored to thoroughly evaluate the LIV Golf application. We remain committed to the OWGR\u2019s mission, which requires honoring the meritocracy woven into the professional game.
