In a corresponding move, Pheonix Copely has been loaned to the Ontario Reign, the Kings’ AHL affiliate. <\/p>\n
Kuemper has been sidelined since Dec. 16 with an upper-body injury he suffered after a collision with Dallas Stars forward Mikko Rantanen.<\/p>\n
He was hurt in the first period on Dec. 15 as Rantanen was battling for position in front of the net. Rantanen appeared to make contact with Kuemper’s head as he was skating above the crease.<\/p>\n
The puck trickled over the ice, but the call was overturned as a result of goaltender interference. No other penalty was called.<\/p>\n
Kuemper exited the game and was replaced by Anton Forsberg in net.<\/p>\n
The 35-year-old, who received his first Vezina Trophy finalist nod last season as the NHL’s best goaltender, has continued to put up all-star performances between the pipes in his second season with the Kings. He has a 10-6-6 record with a .917 save percentage and 2.19 goals-against average.<\/p>\n
Copely, meanwhile, played one game with the Kings after he was recalled, posting a .893 save percentage while allowing three goals. <\/p>\n
The Kings return to action on Jan. 1 against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
