\n President Donald Trump<\/a> issued the first vetoes<\/a> of his second term Tuesday, blocking two bipartisan, infrastructure-related bills.\n <\/p>\n

\n The president argued that blocking both measures was necessary to save taxpayer dollars.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cEnough is enough. My Administration is committed to preventing American taxpayers from funding expensive and unreliable policies. Ending the massive cost of taxpayer handouts and restoring fiscal sanity is vital to economic growth and the fiscal health of the Nation,\u201d Trump said in a message to Congress<\/a>, explaining his veto of one of the bills, H.R. 131<\/a>, which aims to lower the payments certain communities in Colorado make for the construction of a water pipeline.\n <\/p>\n

\n The other bill vetoed, H.R. 504<\/a>, would expand the land reserved for the Miccosukee Tribe in Florida and instruct the Department of Interior to work with the tribe to mitigate flooding in the added area.\n <\/p>\n

\n Congress can override the president\u2019s veto<\/a> by passing the bill again with a two-thirds majority in both chambers.\n <\/p>\n

\n Trump\u2019s veto of H.R. 131 in particular drew criticism with one lawmaker accusing the president of retaliation.\n <\/p>\n

\n Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado said in a post on X<\/a>, \u201cThis isn\u2019t governing. It\u2019s a revenge tour. It\u2019s unacceptable.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n CNN has reached out to the White House for comment.\n <\/p>\n

\n The senator\u2019s claim comes as Trump has sparred with Colorado\u2019s Democratic Gov. Jared Polis over the governor\u2019s refusal to release Tina Peters, a former election official and prominent 2020 election denier, from state prison. Earlier this month, Trump granted Peters a full federal pardon<\/a>, which does not erase her state charges. Polis has said it\u2019s a matter for the courts to decide.\n <\/p>\n

\n In a Wednesday morning Truth Social post<\/a>, Trump reiterated his calls for Peters to be freed, while again lashing out at Colorado\u2019s governor and \u201cthe disgusting \u2018Republican\u2019 (RINO!) DA, who did this to her.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n The administration previously announced that it will close a critical research center<\/a> in the state, with the White House implying that it was taking aim at the institution because of Polis.\n <\/p>\n

\n GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado, an ally of Trump who sponsored H.R. 131, said in a post on X<\/a>, \u201cThis isn\u2019t over.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n CNN has reached out to Boebert\u2019s office for additional comment.\n <\/p>\n

\n This isn\u2019t the first time Boebert has been at odds with the president. She recently disagreed with Trump\u2019s strong resistance to releasing files related to the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Trump eventually signed the bipartisan bill to release the files, hundreds of thousands<\/a> of which the Justice Department made public earlier this month with heavy redactions.\n <\/p>\n
