The Miami Dolphins<\/a>, after firing Chris Grier partway through the 2025 NFL Season, are looking to hire a new general manager for the 2026 season and beyond.<\/p>\n

Finding the right leader will be a big deal for the Dolphins, and they’ve already begun to make moves to find a new general manager.<\/p>\n

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter,<\/a> the Dolphins are bringing in Hall of Famer Troy Aikman, a longtime Dallas Cowboys<\/a> quarterback and current broadcaster for ESPN, to help and advise the Dolphins during this GM search.<\/p>\n

“The Miami Dolphins have brought on Hall-of-Fame QB and ESPN analyst Troy Aikman as a consultant to advise the organization on its general manager process, per sources,” Schefter reports. “It is not a permanent role, but he will be an advisor throughout the process for the Dolphins’ next GM.”<\/p>\n

Miami is bringing Aikman in to help lead the Dolphins in their search for a new general manager, but afterwards, he won’t stick around as part of the team.<\/p>\n

He’s a consultant for the Dolphins, and while Aikman has mused about a future in the NFL beyond being the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, specifically as a GM himself, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network<\/a>, this is not such a gig.<\/p>\n

Aikman’s role is as a consultant, not as the main voice on who will be hired, and what offseason moves come the Dolphins’ way after the 2025 season.<\/p>\n

The longtime NFL quarterback, who’s won a few Super Bowls, is definitely a voice worth listening to when it comes to NFL advice. While he’s not a former general manager, he has been a part of successful teams and should provide a quality voice to the Dolphins.<\/p>\n

Part of Miami’s search for a new general manager might entail dealing with Mike McDaniel as the head coach. McDaniel might stay as the Dolphins’ head coach, which could further throw a wrench into the plans for the Dolphins this offseason.<\/p>\n

But Aikman and the Dolphins’ leadership will work together to find the right general manager to lead the Dolphins for years to come.<\/p>\n

This is a very interesting decision from Miami, and Aikman hasn’t spent any time with the Dolphins in his 12-year Hall of Fame NFL career. But now, he’s helping them find a new franchise leader as they enter a transition period.<\/p>\n

The Tua Tagovailoa decision will be a tough one to manage for a new general manager, and Aikman’s consultation might help in finding the right leader for the Dolphins as they begin what could be a lengthy rebuild.<\/p>\n
