\u201cLate Show<\/a>\u201d host Stephen Colbert<\/a> hit back at his corporate bosses on Wednesday when asked what \u201cmajor lesson\u201d he learned in 2025.<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t trust billionaires,\u201d Colbert told CNN\u2019s Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen<\/a> during their New Year\u2019s Eve broadcast. \u201cThey don\u2019t get rich by finding that money on the side of the road, brother.\u201d<\/p>\n

CBS announced the end<\/a> of the \u201cLate Show\u201d last summer, although it will remain on the air through May of this year.<\/p>\n

That company insisted it was \u201cpurely a financial decision\u201d and claimed<\/a> the show \u2015 which is number one in its time slot \u2015 was losing $40 million a year.<\/p>\n

But most observers cast doubt on that number, with fellow late night TV host Jimmy Kimmel calling the corporate claims about Colbert\u00a0 \u201cobviously lies<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Instead, many believe\u00a0political pressure<\/a>\u00a0played a role.<\/p>\n

The decision came as corporate parent Paramount was trying to complete a merger with Skydance Media \u2015 which required approval from the FCC \u2015 and after President Donald Trump<\/a> had repeatedly attacked Colbert and called for him to be canceled<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The deal was approved<\/a> the following week, putting David Ellison \u2015 son of billionaire Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, who reportedly bankrolled the merger<\/a> \u2015 in charge of the combined entity.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, Colbert hasn\u2019t held back. He\u2019s repeatedly called out<\/a> the company that fired him \u2015 including last month, when it launched a $108 billion bid for a hostile takeover of Warner Bros.<\/p>\n

\u201cWow. I gotta say, if my company\u2019s got that kind of green, I\u2019m sure they can afford to uncancel one of their best shows,\u201d Colbert cracked<\/a>.<\/p>\n
