Two\u00a0of the Toronto Blue Jays’ biggest rivals might be trying to poach one of their star players.\u00a0<\/p>\n
As we enter the New Year, there is still no news on where Bo Bichette will play next season. The 27-year-old infielder remains one of the biggest MLB free agents still on the market, with multiple teams rumoured to be\u00a0interested.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Blue Jays have not been ruled out to bring him back on an extension, but they will have to compete with\u00a0a few high-payroll teams. In a report from MLB insider Jon Heyman earlier this week, he said the New York Yankees, LA Dodgers, and Chicago Cubs are keeping tabs on the Toronto superstar.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“Three previously unreported teams have\u00a0checked on superstar Bo Bichette: Yankees, Dodgers and Cubs,” wrote Heyman. “The Yankees and Cubs are fielding inquiries on their star 2B who are free agents after 2026 (Jazz Chisholm Jr.\u00a0and Nico Hoerner).”\u00a0<\/p>\n
It appears that Bichette’s willingness to move to second-base fulltime has reignited interest across the MLB. The Florida native missed most of the postseason with an injury last year, but was able to put together a nice World Series outing as the Blue Jays’ second baseman, as opposed to his usual shortstop position.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Yankees have been unusually quiet this offseason, with no big external adds to the club so far this Winter. You’d think that Yankees GM Brian Cashman would want to make a Bichette-level splash to avenge New York’s ALDS loss to the Blue Jays.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Toronto fans are probably sick of hearing about the Dodgers, but they always remain a threat to sign top-end free agents. L.A. already picked up pitcher Edwin Diaz from the New York Mets earlier this offseason, and has reported interest in Kyle Tucker as well.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Many still see Toronto as among the\u00a0front-runners to bring Bichette back for another shot at a World Series title. Though things might be held up with the Blue Jays hot on the heels of another top-end FA in\u00a0Tucker.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Losing Bichette to any other team would be a tough pill to swallow for Jays fans, but having a heated rival like the Yankees or Dodgers would just rub salt into the wound.\u00a0<\/p>\n
With MLB spring training set to start up in just two months, we should be getting clarity on Bichette sooner rather than later.\u00a0<\/p>\n
