a notice<\/a> on its website, the CFIA states that GoodFood\u2019s Safe Food for Canadians (SFC) licence was suspended on Dec. 30, 2025.<\/p>\nAccording to the CFIA, the Montreal-based company isn\u2019t allowed to conduct any activity for which the licence was issued. The release explained that a licence is suspended \u201cwhen a licence holder does not comply with applicable requirements under the Safe Food for Canadians Act (SFCA) and its Regulations, or the Food and Drugs Act (FDA) and its Regulations.\u201d<\/p>\n
The SFC licence is for businesses that import, export, or send food between provincial and territorial borders.<\/p>\n
No recalls were associated with the suspension. <\/p>\n
In an email statement to CTV News, a spokesperson for GoodFood said the company was disappointed with the decision and stressed that there \u201care no food safety issues at our facility\u201d. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe suspension relates mostly to procedural aspects of the license (for example the review of complaints),\u201d the statement read. \u201cOur customers will be minimally affected by this decision, as orders across the country will still be delivered, with some exceptions.\u201d<\/p>\n
It added that the licence suspension came from \u201cthe National Director\u2019s office in Toronto on the basis of perceived non-compliances, which are largely procedural in nature.\u201d<\/p>\n
GoodFood\u2019s Calgary facility remains open and will continue delivering products. The company said they expect the suspension to be resolved soon. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe are confident that any gaps that are perceived to exist would be closed in the coming hours or days,\u201d it read. <\/p>\n
The CFIA noted that the licence suspension will be lifted when corrective measures have been taken by the company. If that doesn\u2019t happen within 90 days of the suspension date, the licence can be cancelled. <\/p>\n
Some of the reasons Safe Food for Canadians licences can be suspended include: <\/p>\n
