Porter Martone and Cole Beaudoin scored in the second period as Canada increased their lead over Slovakia to 7-1 after 40 minutes of their quarter-final matchup at the 2026 World Juniors.<\/p>\n
Martone collected a pass from Keaton Verhoeff at the blueline and scored on the rush at 9:31 of the second frame to extend the Canadian lead.<\/p>\n
Beaudoin got on the scoresheet at 10:41 of the period as he used a net-front screen to pickup another marker for Canada.<\/p>\n
Jan Chovan finally got Slovakia on the board at 16:50 of the period, breaking the Canadian shutout.<\/p>\n
Canada started the second period with a commanding 5-0 lead thanks to an offensive onslaught in the first frame.<\/p>\n
After the teams played to an early stalemate, Cole Reschny opened the floodgates for Canada with his marker at 13:58 by going to the net and pouncing on a rebound.<\/p>\n
Tij Iginla wasted no time adding to the advantage :44 seconds later with a beautiful snipe past Slovakia goaltender Michal Pradel.<\/p>\n
Michael Misa made it three for Canada in the first period, finding open space and firing the puck into the net.<\/p>\n
That was the end of the night for Pradel, who was replaced in net by Alan Lendak.<\/p>\n
Sam O\u2019Reilly followed the Misa marker with one of his own after just :52 seconds, giving Canada a 4-0 lead.<\/p>\n
Canada then went to the first power play of the game thanks to a high-sticking penalty by Tomas Pobezal and Brady Martin made them pay, scoring the fifth goal of the period to cap off an offensive explosion.<\/p>\n
Jack Ivankovic got the start in net for Canada and has made 13 saves through the opening two periods.<\/p>\n
Canada is trying to advance out of the quarter-final round for the first time in three years. They suffered defeats at the hands of Czechia at this stage in two consecutive tournaments.<\/p>\n
