{"id":386063,"date":"2026-01-03T18:10:08","date_gmt":"2026-01-03T18:10:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/386063\/"},"modified":"2026-01-03T18:10:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-03T18:10:08","slug":"anthony-joshua-boxer-flies-back-to-uk-after-fatal-crash-in-nigeria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/386063\/","title":{"rendered":"Anthony Joshua: Boxer flies back to UK after fatal crash in Nigeria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has flown back to the UK after a fatal car crash that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/c8989e1wnj2o\" class=\"ssrcss-k8mrr8-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">killed two of his close friends in Nigeria<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The 36-year-old was a passenger in a Lexus SUV that collided with a stationary truck on a major expressway near Lagos on Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Joshua&#8217;s close friends and team members Sina Ghami and Latif &#8220;Latz&#8221; Ayodele died in the crash. Their funerals will take place at a London mosque on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Joshua was taken to hospital and was discharged on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Driver Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, was charged at Sagamu Magistrates&#8217; Court on Friday. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/c5y2jrdnnqyo\" class=\"ssrcss-k8mrr8-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Police sources told the BBC<\/a> the charges included causing death by dangerous driving.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The defendant was granted bail of 5m naira (\u00a32,578) and remanded pending his bail conditions being met.
