{"id":387654,"date":"2026-01-04T13:25:12","date_gmt":"2026-01-04T13:25:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/387654\/"},"modified":"2026-01-04T13:25:12","modified_gmt":"2026-01-04T13:25:12","slug":"la-galaxys-riqui-puig-has-second-knee-surgery-out-long-term","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/387654\/","title":{"rendered":"LA Galaxy&#8217;s Riqui Puig has second knee surgery, out long-term"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlssoccer.com\/clubs\/la-galaxy\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">LA Galaxy<\/a> midfielder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlssoccer.com\/players\/ricard-puig-marti\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Riqui Puig<\/a> has undergone a successful left ACL (knee) surgery, just over a year after a similar procedure in late 2024.<\/p>\n<p>According to LA, Puig is expected to fully recover and rejoin the team for the start of the 2027 MLS season.<\/p>\n<p>The 26-year-old Spaniard sustained the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlssoccer.com\/playoffs\/2025\/news\/la-galaxy-s-riqui-puig-to-miss-mls-cup-2024-with-torn-acl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">initial knee injury<\/a> during the second half of the 2024 Western Conference Final, helping propel the Galaxy to their record sixth MLS Cup presented by Audi title.<\/p>\n<p>Puig missed the Galaxy&#8217;s entire 2025 season, impacting the club&#8217;s 14th-place finish in the Western Conference (30 points). The current injury timeline would see him miss back-to-back campaigns.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I hope to be back soon, better than ever, and I hope you&#8217;ll be waiting for me,&#8221; Puig <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DTDpyvKiSkr\/?hl=en&amp;img_index=4\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">shared on Instagram<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Before these setbacks, the two-time MLS All-Star posted 29g\/32a in 82 matches across all competitions for the Galaxy. He was named to the 2024 MLS Best XI.<\/p>\n<p>In May 2024, Puig signed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlssoccer.com\/news\/la-galaxy-sign-riqui-puig-to-contract-extension\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">long-term contract extension<\/a> with LA through the 2027 season. The FC Barcelona product has occupied a Designated Player roster spot.<\/p>\n<p>LA&#8217;s 2026 MLS campaign starts on Feb. 22 against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlssoccer.com\/clubs\/new-york-city-football-club\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York City FC<\/a> (7 pm ET | <a href=\"https:\/\/tv.apple.com\/us\/sporting-event\/la-galaxy-vs-new-york-city-football-club\/umc.cse.25513awrlpxajvsj71oop97pq?ctx_brand=tvs.sbd.7000%2Ctvs.sbd.4000\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Apple TV<\/a>).
