Miley Cyrus<\/a> has reflected on the competitive nature of awards season, saying \u201cperformance runs so much deeper than a scoreboard\u201d.<\/p>\n

The pop star recently shared \u2018Dream As One<\/a>\u2018, a song for the soundtrack of Avatar: Fire And Ash<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 the latest instalment of\u00a0James Cameron<\/a>\u2019s sci-fi franchise.<\/p>\n

Yesterday (January 3), Cyrus attended the Palm Springs Film Awards, where she noted that the ceremony was refreshing as it was \u201cwithout the stress of competition\u201d as all 12 awardees are announced in advance.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo often during awards season, we\u2019re set up as competitors, but we\u2019re meant to be a community, not opponents. There is no single best, it\u2019s only our personal best work,\u201d Cyrus told the audience, per The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cNumbers can make it feel like a sport, but performance runs so much deeper than a scoreboard, because each artist, they bare their soul in a completely unique way, and every contribution leaves its own mark on history,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhether you\u2019re in or out of this industry, we all have a persona, even the ones that are rooted in authenticity, because self creation is an art form, and all of us, we perform genuinely,\u201d she continued. \u201cThat\u2019s something that I deeply admire in both award-winning actors and actresses, and the drag queens of Toucans \u2014 they\u2019re kind of the same.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Cyrus also expressed her appreciation she was able to support \u201cstories like Avatar by my friend James Cameron \u2013 it\u2019s always cool to say that,\u201d and thanked the room for \u201crecognising their work that I\u2019m totally backpacking off of. They\u2019ve worked on this movie for 16 years; I\u2019ve been involved for like a month, and I get to go to all the same events!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018Dream As One\u2019 saw her join forces with Andrew Wyatt,\u00a0Mark Ronson<\/a>\u00a0and Simon Franglen. The track features in the end credits for the third\u00a0Avatar\u00a0movie, and\u00a0was partly inspired by the\u00a0devastating fires that tore across Los Angeles at the start of the year<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It comes after she revealed\u00a0that she went to the 2025 Oscars to pitch herself as a songwriter for film<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Cyrus released her ninth studio album \u2018Something Beautiful<\/a>\u2018 last May \u2013 a record which\u00a0NME\u00a0hailed as \u201canother pretty big swing\u201d in a four-star review<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Something Beautiful\u2019 is sprawling and apparently unperturbed by contemporary chart trends,\u201d we wrote. \u201cWhile \u2018Something Beautiful\u2019 probably isn\u2019t Cyrus\u2019s most hit-packed album, it does feel like a fully realised artistic statement.\u201d<\/p>\n

The album included the track \u2018Secrets<\/a>\u2018, a collaboration with\u00a0Fleetwood Mac<\/a>\u2018s\u00a0Mick Fleetwood<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Lindsey Buckingham<\/a>. Cyrus went on to dedicate the track to her father\u00a0Billy Ray Cyrus<\/a>, saying: \u201cThis song was written as a peace offering for someone I had lost for a time but always loved. In my experience, forgiveness and freedom are one and the same\u201d.<\/p>\n
