who periodically travel to Hay River<\/a> to provide services.<\/p>\n\u201cI got [McCracken] on the phone, thank God she answered,\u201d Beck said.<\/p>\n
McCracken said Denali is about 150 pounds, so that amount of medication “would have been toxic for her.”<\/p>\n
\u201cShe was probably able to just walk past it and grab it off the counter, considering she\u2019s so big,\u201d McCracken said.<\/p>\n
Fortunately, Denali had also gotten into other things that day.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe also ate a loaf of bread, and got into the garbage and ate a bunch of other things \u2014 I think that\u2019s actually what probably saved her life.\u201d<\/p>\n

While McCracken was helping from afar, the RCMP also stepped in. McCracken had left some medication with them for use in cases such as this.<\/p>\n
That medication, which makes dogs throw up, worked quickly.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe could tell that a lot of the [Apoquel] hadn\u2019t actually entered her bloodstream, which was great,\u201d McCracken said. \u201cWe found some activated charcoal to give her, which helps absorb toxins \u2014 and that was a hunt as well.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were able to get some more and thankfully she ate it and nobody had to wrestle her.\u201d<\/p>\n
Beck\u2019s mom helped find the activated charcoal, and Staff Sgt. Phil Unger with the Hay River RCMP helped as well.<\/p>\n
Beck credits the community for stepping up to help. He was back home by the end of the week, and is thankful Denali survived the ordeal.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe just have a great group of people,\u201d Beck said.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverybody saw it was important enough to help \u2026 I just want to thank everybody.
