The NBA’s league-wide salary guarantee deadline arrived this week.

To navigate around it, the Milwaukee Bucks have waived a guard who was a college superstar.

Mark Sears was cut loose by the Bucks, according to the NBA’s transaction log.

Sears is a lefty point guard who was an All-American superstar at Alabama.

The sharpshooter and playmaker signed a two-way deal with the Bucks in the summer.

He only got 26 minutes spread across seven NBA games. He did have 22 points in 26 minutes, so he made the most of his action.

Sears also appeared in 12 G League games with the Wisconsin Herd. In those appearances, he put up 16.2 points per game.

It’s an interesting move by the Bucks, because it makes them one of just three teams with an open two-way contract slot.

As other teams make their cuts before the guarantee date, Milwaukee may spot a player they like to try and plug in there.

Sears, who is just 6-feet tall, will have to grind his way to stick around the NBA. He’s one of those players with immense talent who may not be quite up to the size and speed aspects of the NBA.

This was just his first chance, though, and he’ll likely learn from it in order to make the most of the next opportunity that comes his way.
