Max Verstappen’s former chief mechanic at Red Bull has been handed a promotion within the Audi F1 team.<\/p>\n
Lee Stevenson was part of the Red Bull set-up for almost two decades before leaving the team for Sauber in May 2024.<\/p>\n
The Briton joined Sauber as it prepared for its rebranding to Audi in 2026, right as fresh technical reguations come into play.<\/p>\n
Having also served as chief mechanic at Sauber since joining the team, he has now taken on a new role as Audi prepares for its F1 debut.<\/p>\n
Stevenson has been named Audi’s team manager ahead of the new campaign.<\/p>\n
He is not the only former Red Bull employee to hold a key position in the team, as Jonathan Wheatley is carrying out team principal duties following his switch from the Milton Keynes-based squad.<\/p>\n
Audi will give fans their first look at the 2026 livery on January 20 later this month, through a launch from Berlin.<\/p>\n
However, the car will have its first shakedown this Friday from the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya as it enters the new complete with its own power unit.<\/p>\n
Audi revealed earlier this week that its engine was fired into life for the first time in December, marking a crucial step in its journey to join the grid.<\/p>\n
