Bo Levi Mitchell of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Edmonton Elks tangle at Commonwealth Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

These teams combined for an incredible 141 points in two games last year, and my Tiger-Cats vs. Elks predictions are betting on another shootout.

Here are my best free CFL picks for this Week 9 clash on August 2.

Tiger-Cats vs Elks prediction

My Tiger-Cats vs Elks pick: Over 54.5 (-110 at BET99)

The total is the highest of the week at 54.5, but it might not be high enough when you consider this matchup.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats lead the CFL in points per game (32.1), while the Edmonton Elks surrender a league-high 31.8 ppg. The Ticats have a strong offensive line and an explosive aerial attack spearheaded by MOP favourite Bo Levi Mitchell.

Mitchell leads the CFL in passing yards (2,201) and has an elite WR corps at his disposal. It’s a group so dangerous that even with top receiver Kenny Lawler disappearing last week, they still piled up nearly 400 yards through the air.

They should torch an Edmonton defense that ranks last in the league in yards per play allowed (7.48), opponent pass efficiency (129.1), sacks (four), and turnovers forced (7). That D could be even worse with top LB Nick Anderson joining safety Royce Metchie and corner Devodric Bynumon on the IL.

That said, the scoring shouldn’t be completely one-sided.

Edmonton’s passing game made major strides last week with Cody Fajardo taking over the reins to throw for 346 yards. Hamilton’s stop unit has looked shaky at times and has been shredded by almost every competent QB it’s faced.

Tiger-Cats vs Elks same-game parlay (SGP)

While I think that Hamilton’s defense isn’t as good as the stats suggest, it’s still much better than Edmonton’s porous unit. There’s a reason the Ticats are on a five-game winning streak and have gone 4-1 ATS in that span. Meanwhile, the Elks are at the bottom of the CFL standings with a 1-5 mark.

The Elks managed to pull off the backdoor cover last week, so I’m not eager to fade them on the spread, but I’ll gladly take Hamilton on the ML in this SGP.

Bet on the CFL at BET99!

One of Canada’s best sportsbooks for football betting, join BET99 and get up to $800 bonus bets back if your first bet doesn’t win when using our BET99 promo code COVERSBONUS!

*Not available in Ontario. 19+.
