Drake Maye won\u2019t receive an MVP endorsement from Tom Brady.<\/p>\n
The MVP race<\/a> has whittled down to a two-player competition between Maye and Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford. Brady backed the 37-year-old veteran over the New England Patriots\u2019 23-year-old star.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n Asked about his MVP thoughts<\/a> on Thursday\u2019s \u201cThe Herd,\u201d Brady cautiously started by giving Maye his flowers.<\/p>\n \u201cLook, I love Drake Maye and what he\u2019s done in his second year working with Josh McDaniels, who\u2019s another tremendous coach and has done such a great job of understanding what Drake\u2019s capable of,\u201d Brady said. \u201cAnd Drake\u2019s taken advantage of every opportunity he\u2019s got.\u201d<\/p>\n Brady didn\u2019t want his analysis twisted into criticism of Maye, who completed 72.0 percent of his passes for 4,394 yards and 31 touchdowns.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n \u201cI always think in these awards, when you say one thing that\u2019s positive about someone, it means you\u2019re saying something negative about the other,\u201d Brady said. \u201cIt\u2019s not like that at all. They both had incredible years.\u201d<\/p>\n However, the seven-time Super Bowl champion then explained why he\u2019s leaning toward Stafford.<\/p>\n \u201cI just see Matt Stafford as a Hall of Fame-level quarterback that has played his best season of football,\u201d Brady declared. \u201cAnd he\u2019s done it against, in any conditions, 46 touchdown passes.
