The Golden Globes return Sunday. The boozy, bubbly kickoff to Hollywood\u2019s awards season will feature nominees including Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael B. Jordan, Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo and Emma Stone.<\/p>\n

Here are key things to know about the ceremony:<\/p>\n

How can I watch the 2026 Golden Globes in Canada?<\/p>\n

In Canada, the 83rd annual Golden Globes will air on cable on the Citytv channel, or viewers can stream it online through the Citytv+ website or with a subscription through Amazon Prime. In the U.S., it will be televised live on CBS and streamed live on Paramount+.<\/p>\n

The program starts at 8 p.m. ET and 5 p.m. PT on Jan. 11.<\/p>\n

When is the red carpet?<\/p>\n

The red carpet walks begin at 6 p.m. ET and coverage will be on E! Network, including on its YouTube channel.<\/p>\n

The comedian and actor Nikki Glaser will return as host for the second year, after a well-reviewed 2025 debut<\/a> when she became the first woman to host the show solo.<\/p>\n

Glaser didn\u2019t go easy on the Hollywood crowd, but wasn\u2019t nearly as barbed as she was in her star-making performance in a roast of Tom Brady. In her first monologue, she called the ceremony \u201cOzempic\u2019s biggest night.\u201d<\/p>\n

When she was rehired, Glaser said in a statement that it was \u201cthe most fun I have ever had in my career.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t wait to do it again, and this time in front of the team from The White Lotus who will finally recognize my talent and cast me in Season 4 as a Scandinavian Pilates instructor with a shadowy past,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Last year\u2019s telecast drew an average of about 10 million viewers, holding steady from the year before. There are far fewer viewers than there were a decade ago, but the Globes remain the most watched awards show after the Oscars and the Grammys.<\/p>\n

Oscar front-runner One Battle After Another leads all nominees<\/a> with nine, including acting nods for DiCaprio and Chase Infiniti and a directing nomination for Paul Thomas Anderson.<\/p>\n

The Globes divides films between drama and musical or comedy in the top categories, and One Battle was categorized as a comedy. Competing against DiCaprio will be Chalamet for Marty Supreme<\/a> and George Clooney for Jay Kelly<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Infiniti\u2019s competition includes Erivo for Wicked: For Good<\/a>, Stone for Bugonia<\/a> and Rose Byrne for If I Had Legs I\u2019d Kick You<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Danish film Sentimental Value<\/a> was second with eight nominations, including an acting nod for star Renate Reinsve. Her competition on the drama side includes Jessie Buckley from Hamnet<\/a>, Julia Roberts for After the Hunt<\/a> and Jennifer Lawrence for Die My Love<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Male actors nominated for dramas include Jordan for Sinners and Dwayne Johnson for The Smashing Machine<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Grande, Teyana Taylor, Paul Mescal, Adam Sandler and Jacob Elordi are among those nominated in the supporting categories.<\/p>\n

The White Lotus<\/a> leads all TV nominees with six.<\/p>\n

The presenters list is stacked, and notably for Canadians, stars of the sensational show Heated Rivalry<\/a>, Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams, will be announcing a category, which is not yet known. The show has been launched into the mainstream<\/a> and quickly gained a following internationally<\/a>, but since it is a Canadian production it\u2019s not eligible to nominated for a Golden Globe. <\/p>\n

Other star presenters include Amanda Seyfried, Ana de Armas, Ayo Edebiri, Charli xcx, Dave Franco, Diane Lane, George Clooney, Jason Bateman, Jennifer Garner, Joe Keery, Judd Apatow, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, Kevin Hart, Macaulay Culkin, Marlon Wayans, Melissa McCarthy, Mila Kunis, Miley Cyrus, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Queen Latifah, Regina Hall, Snoop Dogg, Wanda Sykes and Will Arnett.<\/p>\n

What will winners get in their Golden Globes gift bag?<\/p>\n

Winners and presenters receive luxury gift bags filled with goodies and experiences that can add up to nearly US$1-million. Available to all recipients are things like a five-day luxury yacht charter throughout the Coral Triangle in Indonesia (valued at US$60,000), an LED hair-growth helmet (valued at US$860) and a bottle of Cygnet 22 and Cygnet 77 gin with a pair of martini and rocks glasses (valued at US$500). <\/p>\n

Some of the more exclusive gift bag goodies include a year-long membership to Maison Devereux\u2019s Golden Circle, which offers ultra-luxury, private hair consultations and products \u2013 valued at US$21,000 each and available to three recipients; a two-night stay in the Maldives at an undersea residence followed by another two-night stay in a grand villa \u2013 valued at US$70,000 each and available to five recipients; and nine rare bottles of French wine \u2013 valued at US$210,000 and available to one recipient. <\/p>\n

Celebrities will be treated to world-renowned chef Nobu Matsuhisa\u2019s signature dishes, including yellowtail jalape\u00f1o, caviar cup, lobster salad with spicy lemon dressing, Tai Matsuhisa nigiri brushed with Nikiri soy, Salmon Nigiri brushed with nikiri soy, tuna nigiri brushed with nikiri soy, and miso black cod. On the menu for dessert: white chocolate mousse, pistachio sponge, and ceremonial matcha cake, garnished with a golden Nobu coin. <\/p>\n

This is the third year in a row that the Golden Globes has partnered with the chef\u2019s eponymous restaurant brand.<\/p>\n

What are the Golden Globes?<\/p>\n

The Globes, held annually in early January, are the first major ceremony of the awards season. They\u2019re not exactly an Oscar bellwether \u2013 they have an entirely different voting base of journalists and critics \u2013 but they\u2019re embraced as a champagne-soaked party with some of the biggest stars in film and television sitting together at tables like a nightclub.<\/p>\n

A Globes win can still help build momentum for a movie or actor\u2019s Oscar campaign, and it\u2019s the first time the public may hear an acceptance speech that may be repeated with some variations for months, leading up to the Academy Awards, held this year on March 15.<\/p>\n

Who\u2019s getting a lifetime achievement award?<\/p>\n

Helen Mirren will be honoured with the Golden Globes\u2019 Cecil B. DeMille Award for a life of work on screen, and Sarah Jessica Parker will get the Carol Burnett Award for her career in television.<\/p>\n

Mirren and Parker this week will get a separate Beverly Hilton gala, a recording of which will air Thursday at 8 p.m. Eastern and Pacific on CBS and also stream on Paramount+ on what\u2019s being called \u201cGolden Eve.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mirren, 80, an Oscar winner for her 2006 portrayal of Elizabeth II in The Queen, has also won three Golden Globes and is up for a fourth this year for her role in the series MobLand. She was named a Dame of the British Empire in 2003 in acknowledgment of her artistic achievements.<\/p>\n

The DeMille award dates to 1952, when it was given to the legendary filmmaker himself. Other recipients include Walt Disney, Bing Crosby, Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand, Sidney Poitier, Meryl Streep, Oprah Winfrey, Tom Hanks and Viola Davis.<\/p>\n

Parker will get the much newer Carol Burnett Award, presented to an honouree who has \u201cmade outstanding contributions to television on or off screen.\u201d The 60-year-old Parker, who won six Golden Globes and two Emmys as the star of Sex and the City, is being honoured for her work as actor and producer.<\/p>\n

The award was launched in 2019, when it went to Burnett.
