For maximum impact, pretend he\u2019s sticking his tongue out with a bunch of stickers all over his face. David Byrne is showing off his Gen-Z bona fides by covering Olivia Rodrigo\u2019s \u201cDrivers License,\u201d months after he was the surprise guest at her headlining set at Governors Ball. (Apologies to those who thought her big announcement<\/a> was for a new album.) The cover is less of a creepy, Eno-fied \u201cStrange Overtones\u201d and more in the spirit of Byrne\u2019s cheerful new album<\/a>, Who Is the Sky? \u2014 try to count the polyrhythms by the time he gets to the \u201cI still fucking love you, babe\u201d crescendo. Byrne previously told<\/a> Rolling Stone that he was introduced to Rodrigo\u2019s music when she played a series of concerts at Madison Square Garden last year, where he was impressed by the rigor of her performance. \u201cI got introduced to her afterwards, and she seemed like a real person,\u201d he said. \u201cSomeone who, growing up in the world that she did, survived it really well.\u201d Rodrigo, who cried<\/a> when she heard Byrne\u2019s interpretation of the song, also announced that other Sour covers \u201cfrom some of my favorite artists ever\u201d will follow in the coming weeks to celebrate the album\u2019s fifth anniversary. Jack White for \u201cGood 4 U,\u201d perhaps?<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
