Prominent leaker, Evan Blass, has revealed how much the Motorola Razr Fold will cost in the US. When compared to rival foldables, it sure is cheaper, but that lower price tag may be due to Motorola choosing not to go for the most powerful Snapdragon processor.

After six years of making clamshell-style foldable smartphones, Motorola finally decided to release its first book-style foldable smartphone. The new Razr Fold was announced at CES 2026 as Motorola’s answer to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series and Google’s Pixel Fold series.

However, despite the launch, Motorola chose not to reveal some important details, such as the processor, RAM, storage, and price. Thankfully, one prominent leaker has revealed the US price of the Razr Fold, and it seems to hint at the foldable using a less powerful processor.

According to a post made available on X by Evan Blass, Motorola’s new foldable smartphone will be competitively priced, which should give it an advantage over its rivals. Based on the post, the Motorola Razr Fold will have a starting price of $1,500 in the US. That is significantly lower than the $1,799 and the $1,999 starting prices of the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, respectively – although the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is currently discounted to $1,499 on Amazon.

Motorola says that its foldable will launch this summer, which means it will be facing off against the Pixel 11 Pro Fold and Galaxy Z Fold 8. If we are to presume that these foldables will retain the starting prices of their predecessors, then Motorola’s foldable smartphone will be the cheapest of them. However, that lower price might come at the expense of performance.

To achieve that lower price tag, there’s a possibility that the Razr Fold will not be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, which is the chip that will power several of 2026’s flagship smartphones. Instead, Motorola may decide to go with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, the same one inside the new Motorola Signature, which is its new non-folding flagship phone.

<a href="https://www.notebookcheck.net/fileadmin/Notebooks/News/_nc5/Snapdragon-8-Gen-5-rumours-DCS-kv.jpg" title="The Razr Fold may be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 instead of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. (Image source: Qualcomm)

This shouldn’t be surprising considering Motorola often prefers launching its flagship phones with Qualcomm’s less powerful Snapdragon 8 series chipset for the year instead of the flagship chip. Although it surprised us last year when it launched the Razr 60 Ultra a.k.a. Razr Ultra (2025) with the Snapdragon 8 Elite.

Nevertheless, the lower price may be a good strategy to help it convince customers to purchase the Razr Fold over rival devices. Plus, the rest of the specs are pretty good. It is also worth noting that Motorola smartphones usually get significant discounts shortly after launch, so if you wait a few months after the Razr Fold’s launch, you might be able to purchase it at an even lower price.

Habeeb Onawole – Magazine Writer – 1111 articles published on Notebookcheck since 2023

I love writing about consumer technology and have written thousands of articles that help people make informed decisions or get the best out of their devices.
