He was acquitted both times by the Senate.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdsprfrp000p3b5zegmhtooi@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In September 2021, the Smithsonian placed a board over the exhibit which read: \u201cCase under redesign (history happens*)\u201d and referenced Trump\u2019s two impeachments.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdspwct6000s3b5z9ybd0bq2@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cOn December 18, 2019, the House impeached Donald Trump for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress,\u201d the reference to Trump\u2019s first impeachment read. \u201cThe charges focused on the president\u2019s solicitation of foreign influence in the 2020 presidential election and his defiance of Congressional subpoenas. President Trump was acquitted in January 2020.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdspywhs000v3b5zsxzcefzr@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cOn January 13, 2021, Donald Trump became the first president to be impeached twice,\u201d the reference to his second impeachment read. \u201cThe charge was incitement of insurrection, based on repeated \u2018false statements\u2019 challenging the 2020 election results and his January 6 speech that \u2018encouraged \u2014 and foreseeably resulted in \u2014 lawless action at the Capitol. A future and updated exhibit will include all impeachments.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdsp9y40000a3b5zopq446ij@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The statement did not say when the exhibit would be updated.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdszr3tv00003b5zoqazdmu3@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Asked about the removal of references to Trump\u2019s impeachment, a White House spokesperson said in a statement, \u201cUnfortunately for far too long the Smithsonian museums have highlighted divisive, DEI exhibits which are out of touch with mainstream America.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdszu7lt00043b5zt67c4mle@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cWe are fully supportive of updating displays to highlight American greatness,\u201d spokesperson Davis Ingle said. \u201cThe Trump administration will continue working to ensure that the Smithsonian removes all improper ideology and once again unites and instills pride in all Americans regarding our great history.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdsq3zb800113b5zsr42swl3@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Trump\u2019s order aimed at the Smithsonian is just one example of his efforts to exert his influence on American cultural, athletic and artistic institutions and browbeat them into eliminating aspects of their work.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmdsqfw2i00183b5z6h9evm9v@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            They include his efforts to take over the John F.
