After parting ways with Ruben Amorim earlier this week, Darren Fletcher<\/a> stepped up from United\u2019s under\u201118s to fill the void in the senior technical bench.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n Alongside Jonny Evans and Travis Binnion, he oversaw the 1\u20111 draw with Burnley<\/a> and will guide the side again versus Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup third round.<\/p>\n Yet, as the trio hold the fort, suggestions are growing that the club is weighing up who to appoint as caretaker manager.<\/p>\n Caretaker head coach being eyed<\/p>\n Fletcher, Ruud van Nistelrooy<\/a>, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer<\/a>, and Michael Carrick<\/a> have all been linked with the interim role.<\/p>\n Of course, Solskjaer and Carrick are seen as frontrunners<\/a>, and while all eyes remain fixed on who will be appointed to steady the ship at the Theatre of Dreams, a bombshell has dropped.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n Carrick hijack<\/p>\n Writing in his Give Me Sport newsletter<\/a>, Ben Jacobs revealed that as United continue to dilly\u2011dally over their caretaker appointment, West Ham<\/a> could\u00a0yet hijack one of their prime candidates.<\/p>\n He explained about the London side:<\/p>\n \u201cLike Manchester United, West Ham could also go down a caretaker route. Slaven Bilic would be open to a short\u2011term return to the club, while Michael Carrick (a Manchester United caretaker target along with Ole Gunnar Solskj\u00e6r) has also been considered.\u201d<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n West Ham turmoil<\/p>\n Much like Amorim at Old Trafford, Nuno Esp\u00edrito Santo has failed to spark a turnaround at the London Stadium.<\/p>\n Since replacing Graham Potter, the Hammers have not improved their results, and they remain in danger of relegation. It is little surprise, then, that the board are considering a change to salvage their season.<\/p>\n Would Carrick consider it?<\/p>\n Carrick, before his Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> and eventual United move, once played for West Ham. That history could make a return to rescue them from relegation less far\u2011fetched.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n Even so, United must act swiftly.
