An apartment in Quebec, Canada turned into an \u201cice castle\u201d after its tenant left the property without heat<\/p>\n

Freezing temperatures caused pipes to burst in the home, leading water to spread all over the space and turn into a thick layer of ice<\/p>\n

Video of the aftermath shows icicles hanging from the ceilings and ice covering every surface<\/p>\n

A tenant who left their apartment without heat returned home to a sea of ice inside.<\/p>\n

The home \u2014 located in the city of Trois-Rivi\u00e8res in Quebec, Canada \u2014 was transformed into a nightmare \u201cice castle\u201d after freezing temperatures caused the pipes to burst in the space while the tenant was away, CTV News<\/a> reported on Jan. 5.<\/p>\n

In a video<\/a> of the aftermath shared by CTV News, a thick layer of ice covers entire spaces in the home, including the washer and dryer \u2014 as well as the clothes on top of it.<\/p>\n

Another shot shows icicles hanging from the bottom of the kitchen cabinets, with more hanging down from the ceiling. The frozen water also created a layer of ice on the floor, as well as an abstract-looking sculpture reaching up towards the ceiling.<\/p>\n

Jacques Nault of Logispro Mauricie, the property management company that owns the building, told local Canadian outlet Noovo Info<\/a> that he\u2019s never seen such an \u201cextreme situation\u201d like this before.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is water in the ceilings, in the walls, everywhere. Mold will grow,\u201d Nault told Noovo Info. \u201cWe are going to strip, dry and rebuild according to what is covered by insurance.\u201d<\/p>\n

While the apartment is part of a triplex, the other units were not affected, according to the outlet. The ice was reportedly discovered while addressing a different issue in one of the neighboring units.<\/p>\n

The responsible tenant, who was not named, was officially evicted on Jan. 5 after they had moved out of the property months ago and had stopped paying rent, per the outlet.<\/p>\n

PEOPLE reached out to Nault for comment but did not receive an immediate response.<\/p>\n
