Google recently unveiled its Preferred Sources tool, meaning you now get to choose which news outlets you see first in search results. Here\u2019s how you can put Outside at the top of your list. <\/p>\n

Algorithms be darned. Google recently gave its users some autonomy over their search results with its \u201cPreferred Sources<\/a>\u201d tool. And if you\u2019re an outdoor junkie like us, you can now put Outside news and stories at the top of your search list. Here\u2019s how.<\/p>\n

Google\u2019s new-to-us feature allows you to customize your top news sources so that publications that are subject experts in, say, the outdoors, show up first in your \u201cTop stories\u201d or \u201cNews\u201d searches. This also means you\u2019ll have a dedicated \u201cFrom your sources\u201d section featuring outlets you know and trust.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve also made it easier than ever to add us as a preferred source through the Outside website, on both the web and mobile versions. All you have to do is click the \u201cAdd Outside as a preferred source on Google\u201d button in any story, as shown below:<\/p>\n

Setting\u00a0Outside\u00a0as a preferred source gives you some sway over your algorithm, meaning the sites you select\u2014wink, wink\u2014will show more prominently within your search results, especially as we publish harrowing stories of survival<\/a>, fresh takes on nature<\/a>, and breaking news<\/a> in the outdoor world.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the launch of Preferred Sources in the U.S. and India, you can select your favorite sources and stay up to date on the latest content from the sites you follow and subscribe to\u2014whether that\u2019s your favorite sports blog or a local news outlet,\u201d writes Google on its blog<\/a>.<\/p>\n
