(KCTV) &#8211; Liberty High School senior David Arrieta brought home the 133-pound national championship belt to the Turner Boxing Club, known as \u201cThe Cradle of Champions\u201d for producing national titlists.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cHe\u2019s a champion. I think it\u2019s his 5th national championship,\u201d said Turner coach John Brown.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The tournament provided a stiff test for Arrieta.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cHe fought 5 nights in a row and he dominated every fight,\u201d said David Arrieta Sr., the boxer\u2019s father.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">USA Boxing invited Arrieta to their pre-Olympic camp following his impressive performance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI\u2019m going to go to Colorado Springs for 3 weeks of sparring, training and cardio and then after that we\u2019re going to go to Thailand and compete internationally,\u201d Arrieta said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"One metro boxer has made his way to Team USA.\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/QOXZN3PD6ZGNBFNJHU4VVB4LDA.jpg\" width=\"980\" height=\"690\" \/>One metro boxer has made his way to Team USA.(KCTV5)Father-son boxing connection<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Arrieta has been following in the footsteps of his father, David Arrieta Sr., a former national champion who has helped coach him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIt\u2019s going to be hard on me because me and my boy are very close. We don\u2019t spend very much time away from each other,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The younger Arrieta acknowledged the upcoming separation will be challenging.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cActually it\u2019s going to be difficult because I\u2019m going to be a little homesick,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Despite the distance, Arrieta expressed excitement about joining the national team.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIt\u2019s something I\u2019ve looked forward to- I\u2019ve seen them on Instagram- all the fighters and I think it\u2019s amazing that I\u2019m on their team now,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Family support and future goals<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Victoria Arrieta, David\u2019s mother, initially had doubts about boxing but now sees the sport\u2019s benefits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThat discipline that it takes to be successful in this sport is something that he can take with him,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Arrieta\u2019s ultimate goal is to turn professional and win a world title. His upcoming month-long trip could be a step in that direction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWhat a trip for a young man and what a payoff for all his hard work,\u201d Brown said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2026 KCTV.
