In a New Year\u2019s interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamemeca.com\/view.php?gid=1769876\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">GameMeca<\/a>, Blue Archive producer Yongha Kim shed some light on how Nexon Games has been utilizing AI, while also addressing \u00a0worries about it negatively affecting \u201cauthenticity\u201d in the creative industry, and causing distrust among consumers. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nowadays, more and more game studios have been coming out with new titles that use AI-generated or AI-assisted assets, often sparking criticism among fan communities \u2013 with even some <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/articles\/newsjp\/clair-obscur-expedition-33-genai-20251221-383841\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">widely-beloved and critically acclaimed games like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 becoming subjects of debate<\/a>. Citing copyright infringement and \u201csoulless content\u201d as some of the common criticisms within the industry, Kim explains that he understands these concerns, noting that the current issues with AI technology naturally impact how a game is received (note that this is based on machine translation, so\u00a0exact nuances should be taken with a grain of salt).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/20260109-556740001.jpg\" alt=\"Blue Archive screenshot.\" class=\"wp-image-55677\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst, we have the issue of AI slop, when reckless use of generative AI lowers the quality of the output,\u201d says Kim. \u201cTo use snacks as an example, even if the packaging looks appealing, if the actual amount of snacks inside it was reduced and the bag was filled with air, of course the consumers would react negatively.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Kim mentions that consumers of more niche and subculture-oriented genres have higher expectations for \u201cauthenticity of creativity.\u201d However, he says that current transformer or diffusion-based models are \u201cmerely simulators,\u201d without any intent of personality behind them. \u201cSo if we entirely rely on them to produce results with a mere \u2018click,\u2019 I believe it raises the question: Can the creator\u2019s authenticity really be incorporated into that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked about whether AI would be able to completely replace human-made works in the near future, Kim says that, while it could end up happening in the long-run, based on the present, his answer is \u2013 no. \u201cThe core issue is that, currently, AI still cannot fully generate the level of output demanded in development environments. I believe it will probably still fall short of expectations next year. However, it is undeniable that its utility as a tool is expanding,\u201d Kim explains.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/20260109-556740002.jpg\" alt=\"Blue Archive gameplay.\" class=\"wp-image-55678\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>When it comes to use of AI within the company, Kim says that Nexon Game\u2019s IO division (the team behind Blue Archive and <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/blue-archive-developers-release-first-teaser-for-new-isekai-style-immersive-3d-anime-game-project-rx\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Project RX<\/a>) has been actively applying AI-based technologies such as voice recognition and speech synthesis into their games and exploring potential applications. \u201cHowever, rather than abruptly transforming the entire organization around AI, we are taking a more practical approach of first identifying developers\u2019 needs and then developing technologies or providing services that are able to meet them,\u201d he details.<\/p>\n<p>In one of his <a href=\"https:\/\/automaton-media.com\/en\/news\/nobody-wants-to-spend-money-on-ai-generated-images-blue-archive-producer-says-suggesting-ais-role-lies-in-reducing-non-creative-labor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">previous interviews<\/a>, Kim also stated that Nexon Games IO had been using AI technology to support human developers and help minimize repetitive and time-consuming work.
