Entering the MLB offseason, the Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> knew that one of their biggest decisions would be about the future of star shortstop Bo Bichette.<\/p>\n

Bichette has been a key part of the Blue Jays\u2019 success in recent years. He has had more than his fair share of injury issues, but when healthy there is no denying the impact he has had in Toronto.<\/p>\n

With that being said, Bichette has become a hot commodity in MLB free agency. According to a report from The Athletic<\/a>, he will be meeting with the Philadelphia Phillies<\/a> in the near future. It sounds like the Phillies will push to sign him, while the New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, and Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a> have also registered interest.<\/p>\n

At this point in time, the Blue Jays are facing a critical decision as the rumors surrounding Bichette continue to grow louder.<\/p>\n

Should Bichette sign with another team and walk away from Toronto, the Blue Jays would need to find a way to replace him. There is one decision the team should make.<\/p>\n

Kyle Tucker has been connected on multiple occasions to Toronto this offseason. He\u2019s still a free agent and his market has failed to develop quite as expected. If the Blue Jays want to go all-in on competing for a World Series run, signing Tucker would be the way to go.<\/p>\n

During the 2025 MLB season with the Cubs, Tucker had a bit of a down year. He struggled with some injuries and played in 136 games, hitting 22 home runs to go along with 73 RBI and a slash line of .266\/.377\/.464.<\/p>\n

Even though he had a down year, the numbers were still solid. Toronto would be getting a legitimate superstar at the plate and a solid defensive outfielder.<\/p>\n

Bichette played well in 139 games for the Blue Jays this season. He hit 18 home runs and drove in 94 RBI, while slashing .311\/.357\/.483. Losing that production without replacing it would be devastating for the team\u2019s chances in 2026.<\/p>\n

MLB insider Jon Morosi shared a report on January 9 with more details on what to expect with the meeting between the Phillies and Bichette.<\/p>\n

A really important report yesterday indicating a second meeting is happening between the Phillies and Bo Bichette. Now that could be a very interesting matchup when you think about how the Phillies (a.) need a bat, (b.) Bichette seems to be really comfortable by the different connections where he knows some of the guys on the Phillies already from previous connections,\u201d Morosi said<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a good fit culturally there. There\u2019s also now the ramifications of what this could mean for J.T. Realmuto if Bichette goes to Philly.\u201d<\/p>\n

Both sides have seemed interested in each other. Having a second meeting shows just how serious that interest could be.<\/p>\n

If Bichette and Philadelphia get a deal done, Toronto will need to move quickly. Tucker is still available and the Blue Jays should pounce at the opportunity to bring him onboard.<\/p>\n
