Megyn Kelly praised Conan O\u2019Brien for \u201ctaking aim\u201d at comedians with anti-Trump jokes on her eponymous podcast Friday, arguing that, without naming them, the late-night vet was criticizing one-time colleagues like Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel.<\/p>\n

On Friday\u2019s episode of \u201cThe Megyn Kelly Show,\u201d the host gushed over the comedian\u2019s comments at an Oxford Union event earlier this week. She lauded him for saying something that other late night hosts like Kimmel or Colbert never would.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s the voice of reason, Conan O\u2019Brien, who was part of a discussion at the Oxford Union,\u201d Kelly said. \u201cIt\u2019s really amazing. He\u2019s clearly taking aim, in particular, at the three late night hosts, Fallon less so, but definitely Colbert and Kimmel and the loser, Seth Meyers, 100% not to mention John Oliver \u2014 all of whom do exactly that and only that.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added: \u201cThis all turned into like one big Trump-bashing session out in Hollywood. We know that. But it\u2019s not just on camera. It\u2019s behind the camera. When people are auditioning for their roles, they have to make clear they hate Trump if they want to get cast in anything major in Hollywood.\u201d<\/p>\n

O\u2019Brien criticized comedians at his event at Oxford Union for building their material around being \u201cF Trump.\u201d He explained that their weapon is their humor and they\u2019re squandering it by coming off angry.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think some comics go the route of, \u2018I\u2019m going to just say \u201cF Trump\u201d all the time,\u2019 or that\u2019s their comedy,\u201d O\u2019Brien said. \u201cWell, now a little bit you\u2019re being co-opted because you\u2019re so angry.\u201d<\/p>\n

The late night veteran added: \u201cYou\u2019ve been lulled into just saying \u2018F Trump. F Trump. F Trump. Screw this guy.\u2019 And I think you\u2019ve now put down your best weapon, which is being funny, and you\u2019ve exchanged it for anger.\u201d<\/p>\n

O\u2019Brien said that losing sight of the humor takes away the best tool in a comedian\u2019s toolbox. He hoped that the material was channeled in more humorous ways to fight the current power.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny person like that would say, \u2018Well, things are too serious now. I don\u2019t need to be funny.\u2019 And I think, well, if you\u2019re a comedian, you always need to be funny,\u201d O\u2019Brien explained. \u201cYou just have to find a way to channel that anger, because good art will always be a perfect weapon against power, but if you\u2019re just screaming and you\u2019re just angry, you\u2019ve lost your best tool in the toolbox.\u201d<\/p>\n
