Banham Zoo in Norfolk has just announced the arrival of the twins, born to Lushan and Jasper on 22 June.<\/p>\n
The mammals are listed as endangered, with fewer than 2,500 estimated to remain in the wild, due to deforestation, habitat fragmentation and poaching.<\/p>\n
“Lu is proving to be an incredible first-time mum, showing great care and dedication to her little ones,” said animal manager Deborah Harris, describing the cubs’ arrival as a “truly special moment”.<\/p>\n
“These births represent a significant step forward in conserving this endangered species.”<\/p>\n
Lu joined Jasper just over a year ago from West Midlands Safari Park as part of the European Endangered Species Breeding Programme (EEP).<\/p>\n
Banham said Jasper had now fathered five cubs through the programme, including the zoo’s most recent birth before the twins.<\/p>\n
