{"id":40435,"date":"2025-08-01T22:51:08","date_gmt":"2025-08-01T22:51:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/40435\/"},"modified":"2025-08-01T22:51:08","modified_gmt":"2025-08-01T22:51:08","slug":"moses-itaumas-first-big-name-admirer-now-sees-him-as-a-threat-ahead-of-dillian-whyte-clash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/40435\/","title":{"rendered":"Moses Itauma&#8217;s first big-name admirer now sees him as a threat ahead of Dillian Whyte clash"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Moses Itauma is going to face his toughest opponent yet in Dillian Whyte on August 16th, but there is another heavyweight now eyeing Itauma as a threat.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloodyknockout.com\/tag\/moses-itauma\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Moses Itauma<\/a> is only 12-0 and has already been named as a potential opponent for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloodyknockout.com\/tag\/oleksandr-usyk\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Oleksandr Usyk<\/a> by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloodyknockout.com\/tag\/turki-alalshikh\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Turki Alalshikh<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst that fight may seem a ways off at this point in his career, it seems the 20-year-old fighter has been on the tip of every tongue in the boxing world lately, with his upcoming fight against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloodyknockout.com\/tag\/dillian-whyte\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dillian Whyte<\/a> being his biggest yet.<\/p>\n<p>Before he was a mainstream name, Itauma was a little-known teenager from Kent, England, but from early on he had the backing of one big name, a fighter who knows he may have to turn from friend to foe very soon.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-1460343723-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Moses Itauma boxing Marcel Bode\" class=\"wp-image-25383\" \/>Photo by James Chance\/Getty ImagesLawrence Okolie reveals Moses Itauma will become a rival if he beats Dillian Whyte<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloodyknockout.com\/tag\/lawrence-okolie\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lawrence Okolie<\/a> recently defeated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloodyknockout.com\/news\/daniel-dubois-went-down-three-times-in-the-opening-round-against-former-cruiserweight-ahead-of-his-clash-with-oleksandr-usyk\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kevin Lerena, who dropped Daniel Dubois<\/a>, in his second heavyweight bout.<\/p>\n<p>In his first, Okolie won via first-round knockout, though his fight with Lerena, which he won on points, was marred by an early bicep injury for Okolie.<\/p>\n<p>Okolie was one of the first to praise Itauma, as he shared rounds with him in Shane McGuigan\u2019s gym when Itauma was still in school. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloodyknockout.com\/news\/world-class-trainer-doubts-dillian-whyte-can-beat-opponent-four-years-younger-than-his-son\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">McGuigan, who thinks Itauma will beat Whyte<\/a>, said Itauma used to turn up in his school uniform before sparring.<\/p>\n<p>Okolie, now 22-1, had been calling out Whyte for some time before the Itauma fight was announced, and has since spoken on Itauma getting his desired opponent, and how the man he admired may soon become his foe,<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou do expect [Moses] to get to world level and he then becomes a rival. For example, I was looking for the Dillian Whyte fight.
