Sombr<\/a> covered Phoebe Bridgers<\/a>\u2018 \u2018Motion Sickness\u2019 during a recent stop on BBC Radio 1\u2019s Piano Sessions \u2013 check it out below.<\/p>\n

The singer, who this year secured a Grammy<\/a> nomination in the Best New Artist category after making his name with his\u00a0viral sad boy ballads<\/a>, played a tender cover of Bridgers\u2019 breakout 2017 single alongside his own runaway hit, \u2018back to friends\u2019.<\/p>\n

Fans have been quick to compliment the crossover \u2013 especially given that both artists share a predilection for songs about ailing relationships \u2013 and are now clamouring it to be uploaded in full to Spotify.<\/p>\n

Asked about his approach to the stripped-back session, he said he thought it would be fun to perform with only the piano. \u201cIt\u2019s not something I do very often, so [it\u2019s] a good change. Don\u2019t get used to it.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for his choice to cover Bridgers, he shared that he discovered her in high school and she become on of his favourite artists. \u201cI\u2019ve been wanting to do a Phoebe cover for a while now, so I think this worked out great.\u201d<\/p>\n

His stop at BBC\u2019s Maida Vale studios comes ahead of his upcoming UK and European tour dates, which will see him play in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Italy and more throughout February and March, before heading back to the UK for shows in London, Manchester, Birmingham and more \u2013 you can visit here<\/a> to buy tickets.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

All live shows come in celebration of Sombr releasing his debut album\u00a0\u2018I Barely Know Her\u2019<\/a>\u00a0in August.<\/p>\n

That album\u00a0was given a four-star\u00a0NME\u00a0review<\/a>, which read \u201c\u2018I Barely Know Her\u2019 is an album driven by heartache but that hasn\u2019t stopped Sombr from creating a gloriously dynamic record that\u2019s less about misery and more about catharsis. It\u2019s sad boy indie with a smirk.\u201d<\/p>\n

His track \u201912 to 12\u2032 also came in at Number on NME\u2018s round up of 50 best songs of 2025<\/a>. \u201cSombr has a penchant for putting melancholic heartbreak to a funky melody and making it sound like an intoxicatingly good time,\u201d the entry read. \u201cThe dirty disco rock and deadly bassline of \u201812 To 12\u2019 draw you in before the 20-year-old pulls off a spine-chilling falsetto.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also made the Top Five for BBC\u2019s Sound Of 2026<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As for Bridgers, last summer saw the singer-songwriter secure\u00a0another legal win in the long-running defamation case brought against her by music producer Chris Nelson<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The case dates back to September 2021, when the singer-songwriter shared an Instagram thread that accused Nelson of \u201cgrooming, stealing [and] violence\u201d. Nelson, who owns the Sound Space recording studio in Los Angeles,\u00a0claimed the post was defamatory against him<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He sought $3.8million (\u00a32.8million) in damages, claiming Bridgers \u201cintentionally used her high-profile public platform on Instagram to publish false and defamatory statements\u201d about him \u201cin order to destroy his reputation\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

In November 2022, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge dismissed Nelson\u2019s suit<\/a>, and ordered Nelson to pay Bridgers $392,070 (\u00a3291,805) in legal fees and costs. That is in addition to a previous order to pay $496,600 (\u00a3369,600), totalling to $888,768 (\u00a3661,480).<\/p>\n
