The Boston Red Sox could shift their focus<\/a> to Bo Bichette after reportedly losing Alex Bregman to the Chicago Cubs. However, one insider suggested they may miss out on the prominent free-agent target.<\/p>\n

The Athletic\u2019s Ken Rosenthal speculated Monday<\/a> on \u201cFoul Territory\u201d that the Philadelphia Phillies are in the driver\u2019s seat to sign Bichette.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I had to guess right now, I would say the Phillies are the favorite,\u201d Rosenthal said. \u201cWe\u2019ll see what happens.\u201d<\/p>\n

As previously reported<\/a> by The Athletic\u2019s Matt Gelb, the Phillies have a Zoom meeting with Bichette on Monday. Rosenthal indicated that the National League East squad will try to steer negotiations toward the finish line during their virtual talk.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou sort of don\u2019t want to let him get off the Zoom without getting a deal done, right?\u201d Rosenthal asked. \u201cIt\u2019s that old theory: Don\u2019t let him walk out of the room until he signs a contract. You can\u2019t really do that on Zoom, I guess, but it\u2019s the same working idea.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Bichette is reportedly seeking a contract worth around $300 million<\/a>, Rosenthal doesn\u2019t think it\u2019s likely the Red Sox would offer a $200 million deal over eight years. He suggested they could pivot<\/a> to free-agent third baseman Eugenio Su\u00e1rez and catcher J.T. Realmuto while continuing to upgrade their pitching staff.<\/p>\n
