A restaurant owner said he had been left feeling “saddened” after two charity boxes were stolen from the venue during a break-in<\/p>\n

Hashim Javed, manager of Lanika Restaurant, in Halifax, said the donation tins were taken during the early hours of Saturday.<\/p>\n

He said the thief had smashed their way into the building, causing “significant damage” to a door and leaving “everything upside down”.<\/p>\n

West Yorkshire Police confirmed it was investigating the incident and appealed for anyone with information about the burglary to come forward.<\/p>\n

Javed said the donation boxes were in support of Halifax Community Fridge and One Nation.<\/p>\n

“It’s upsetting, it’s sad,” he said.<\/p>\n

“You do kind of feel safe in your own town and this takes that away from you.<\/p>\n

“It makes you feel like you can’t trust anybody.”<\/p>\n

“Halifax is a nice place,” he added.<\/p>\n

“We’ve never had any issues like this. But for this to happen to us? You do feel a little bit unsafe. You don’t know who to trust.<\/p>\n

“Ultimately you believe everyone’s a good person around you, but this person who came in and did what he did, it does set you back a bit.”<\/p>\n
