Taye Diggs\u2019<\/a> latest accolade hits close to home.<\/p>\n

On Monday, the Rochester Music Hall of Fame announced<\/a> that Diggs will be inducted into its Class of 2026.<\/p>\n

\u201cTaye Diggs exemplifies the spirit of Rochester\u2019s creative community,\u201d board member Tony Gross said in a statement. \u201cHis achievements reflect not only extraordinary talent, but a commitment to artistic excellence, representation, and storytelling that continues to inspire audiences worldwide.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cRent\u201d star and local band The Skycoasters are the first two inductees to be announced for the upcoming ceremony in April.<\/p>\n

Diggs, who was born in New Jersey, grew up in Rochester and attended the School of the Arts (SOTA). In 1993, he graduated from Syracuse University<\/a> with a BFA in musical theater before launching his prolific Broadway and television career.<\/p>\n

In addition to his role as Benny in \u201cRent,\u201d Diggs\u2019 stage credits include \u201cHedwig and the Angry Inch,\u201d \u201cChicago,\u201d \u201cWicked,\u201d and \u201cMoulin Rouge!\u201d On the small screen, he\u2019s appeared in \u201cAll American,\u201d \u201cPrivate Practice,\u201d and \u201cEmpire.\u201d <\/p>\n

Meanwhile, his film career includes roles in \u201cRiver Runs Red,\u201d \u201c\u2019Til Death Do Us Part, \u201cand \u201dOpening Night,\u201d as well as the film adaptations of \u201cRent\u201d and \u201cChicago.\u201d<\/p>\n

In response to the news, Diggs shared his gratitude. \u201cI\u2019m incredibly grateful and humbled to be recognized by my hometown. Rochester played a huge role in shaping who I am as an artist, and this honor means more to me than I can express,\u201d read a statement from him on the Hall of Fame\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Last Thursday, Diggs also showcased his Rochester pride by sharing a photo of his old Rochester City School District ID on Instagram<\/a>. The ID featured a baby-faced Diggs in glasses and listed his family\u2019s former Rochester address. \u201cBack in the day,\u201d Diggs wrote in the caption.<\/p>\n

The induction ceremony is scheduled for April 26 at 7 p.m. at the Eastman Theatre.<\/p>\n
